EasyBCD is violating Microsoft Copyright, grub4dos Copyright.
Neosmart is a company of crooks stealing foreign work !!

DO NOT USE EasyBCD.

Actually, I had a very similar situation -- after I installed Win8 on a PC with XP, the Previous Windows Version selection would NOT work.

What did work was the following (in EasyBCD):
1) Run EasyBCD in Win8
2) Use the option to edit the BCD
3) Use the option to add an OS -- select the one ending in XP
4) Use the option to search for the OS
5) When the boot option is added, save the changes
6) Reboot, selecting the new option -- and confirm it works (it did for me)

If it works, do the following:
1) Reboot into Win8
2) Use the option to edit the BCD
3) Remove the Winxp boot selection that does not work
4) If you want, you can change the order of the boot list to move the new XP (the one that does work) to the top of the list
5) If you want, you can rename the new XP option to what you want
6) Save the changes
