Windows Update recorded 25 updates today. I selected Install but got the message above. They have not been installed (not needed) but remain as scheduled updates in Windows Update. Is this normal operation or is there a problem I need to sort out?
I switched from my admin account to another user account and the updates then installed from there OK. I ran sfc /scannow which fixed some errors. Is there a way to check that Windows Update is configured correctly?
Note I updated to Windows 8.1 a few days ago. The first tranche of 'catch up' updates after the upgrade a few days ago worked fine.
If the sfc command did not fix all corrupt system files, run: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
The above command may appear to be stalled at 20% but it is not, let it finishThen run the sfc command again and reboot the computer afterwards and check for updates. See if things come back to normal.
I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter which showed the following reports and fixed the problems. This was after sfc /scannow found problems and fixed them.
Hopefully iWindows Update will work for the next update cycle. Why would these errors occur?
How many updates did you receive this cycle and are any of them optional? Temporarily disable your anti virus program and firewall and see if they install. If not, try to install 1 and see if it installs.
There were 2 updates - 1 optional and 1 not. The single recommended update would not install. I turned off Auto Update and selected both then they both downloaded and installed when I requested! Are there other troubleshooting steps to try apart from the Windows Update Troubleshooter?
I glad you got them in. Let's hope that Windows Update has settled down and you not longer have problems installing others. There is nothing much further than you have tried up to now.
