When I try to update windows, I get the above error. I can the run the troubleshooter, which starts and stops Bits and CrytSvc, and fixes potential error 80070490, and "Windows Updates Components must be repaired"

I also tried to download windows update again (to see if that would fix the issue) and I was redirected to http://beta.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx which was down (according to both me and http://beta.update.microsoft.com Is Down -> Check if your website is up or down?).

How can I solve this problem?

Welcome to EightForums soandos

I have search and found something related to your problem.

1. Open Internet Explorer (only!) to You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services [ignore the title, etc.], dismiss the automated troubleshooter pop-up then run Fix It 50202 in DEFAULT and then AGGRESSIVE modes. [Ignore any "Not recommended" warnings, etc.]

2. Reboot & test.
