Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter - Fix Apps in Windows 8

Troubleshoot and Fix Store App Issues in Windows 8 and 8.1 with Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter

information   Information
This tutorial will show you how to download and run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter to help troubleshoot and fix common issues with Metro Store apps automatically in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter.

Note   Note
If you've upgraded your PC from Windows 7 and can't run Windows 8 apps, it is probably because you have a 3rd party antivirus program on your PC that is blocking the apps. Change the app to be trusted in the AV program's settings.

If you're still unable to run apps, run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter below. This tool can automatically find and fix some problems with apps. The troubleshooter will work on all languages but the text in the troubleshooter is only in English.

If one or more of your Windows 8 apps contain an "X" on the app tile on the Start screen and won't open, try uninstalling and reinstalling one of the apps from the Windows Store.

What type of disabling UAC that caused Metro apps to not launching?
When i disabled UAC metro apps run just fine, until the only admin lost its admin rights.

Hello MrShowdown,

Setting UAC to "Never Notify" normally will not prevent Store apps from running.

It's when you use the old Windows 7 and Vista method of setting the EnableLUA registry DWORD to 0 (zero) to completely disable UAC is when it prevents Store apps from running.

(step 6)

Thanks for the explanation, Brink.
But what is the difference if you disabled it via registry and set to never notify?

If you set the EnableLUA registry DWORD to 0 (zero), it will completely disable UAC and basically elevating all administrator user accounts.

Store apps will not run in elevated accounts.

If you use any of the options in the tutorial below for UAC settings in Windows 8, then it will have no affect on using Store apps.

So that's why all Metro apps do not run if Explorer.exe was started with admin privileges (Run as Administrator).

When i Try To Open The AppsDiagnostic.diagcab file it is showing like this [see screenshot]

what to do ???

Hello Ajmal,

What details does it give you when you click on the View more details link at the bottom left of that window?

Are you signed in as an administrator when trying to run it?

Dear Brink its comming when i click on it... and i use administrator account for opening it

Ajmal,

The error code 0x80070005 is also described as ACCESS DENIED. This means that you do not have administrator rights to be able to run the AppsDiagnostic.diagcab file.

Double check the steps to make sure that you clicked on Run as administrator.

I've updated the steps in the tutorial to help. Please try them again. :)

Did you go through the tutorial on the first page again with the updated steps? It will show you how to.

In step 9 I don't get any repair options for "Display adapter drivers might be out-of-date" like your screenshot, but I doubt that is the answer anyway, as I suddenly got bottom-right-x's at the bottom right of most of my apps, none of which will open, including all my Windows apps. Since most of the discussion is indecipherable for me, I will try rearranging the electricity once again, find a better recovery point & all that.

Thanks, Shawn. FYI, the problem was diagnosed, but there were no suggestions listed below it. ??? Problem solved itself later while I was talking with a Windows tech--all but one of the x's removed itself, and we uninstalled the last one and re-installed it. Had to have been a Windows glitch. TY

Hi Brink,

I just bought a dell laptop with the Windows 8 pre-installed. Everything works fine except for the windows store. My account is set as the Administrator (microsoft account), and there are no other user accounts. I tried some of the steps you've mentioned here and on other tutorials but none of it seems to work. I installed the default UAC.reg file and did the store troubleshooter, restarted the laptop and tried again but the error 0x80240031 shows up. Before this, I'm not recognized me as the Administrator so I can't download the 8.1 single language update though it's available on the windows store (when i tried the troubleshooter, there's no option to "run as administrator" but I proceeded with the repair). I can't install any app as well due to error 0x8020002e. I have stable internet connection so I can't really figure this out. My windows 8 is licensed and all so i really hope you can help me. Thanks!
