Windows software won't run

Hi.

Some of the software on my Windows 8.1 laptop will not run I have no idea why. Even notepad comes up with a error saying this app wont run on this pc. A launcher for some other software doesn't start and Firefox throws back an error about mozglue.dll windows action centre wants me to restart the computer to fix drive errors. I am assuming all these issues are related. The only software I installed recently was steam and a game and it is also installed on another computer running Windows 10 and there is nothing wrong with that computer.

Any ideas? My lenovo came with some recovery tools so I could just start from the beginning.

First thing I would do is run Sfc /scannow from Adm Command Prompt. If it finishes with no errors get back.

If any errors run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from Adm Command Prompt. If it says errors repaired run Sfc /scannow andGet back with results.
