This tutorial will show you how to manually check for an install software updates for your Windows Phone 8.

Before you download and install an update:
- Make sure your phone is well-charged, so you don't lose power during the update.
- If you're worried about cellular data charges, use Wi-Fi and manually download the update.
- Make sure you have enough storage space free on your phone for the update. If necessary, remove a few unwanted apps or other large items.
Here's How:
1. On your Windows Phone 8, open the App list, and tap on Settings. (see screenshot below)
2. Tap on phone update in system settings. (see screenshot below)
3. Tap on the check for updates button. (see screenshot below)
4. Your phone will now check for updates. Do step 5 or 6 below depending on if you have a phone update available or not. (see screenshot below)
5. If No Phone Updates are Available
A) You will see a message stating that your phone is up to date. Go to step 7 below. (see screenshot below)
6. If Phone Updates are Available
A) If you didn't already have automatically download updates turned on (checked), then tap on Download when prompted after checking for updates or receiving an update notification.
B) Do step 6C or 6D below for what you would like to do. (see screenshot below)
C) If you want to wait to later to install the update, then tap on postpone. You would just need to start back at step 1 again when you are ready to install the update. Go to step 7 below. (see screenshot below 6B)
D) If you want to install the update now, then tap on install, show details, and install again. (see screenshot below 6B)
E) Your phone will restart, and then install the update. (see screenshot below)
NOTE: It usually takes 5 to 10 minutes to install an update, but it could take longer.
F) After your phone restarts, wait for it to migrate your settings, and then tap on done to finish the update. (see screenshot below)
7. When finished, you can return to your Start screen if you like.
That's it,
Shawn
