first this is a minor question as it may already been answered. if so, if someone could point the way that would greatly help. I just found out about 2 weeks ago that the windows office 10 came with this PC. all I needed was the key. but it was early 2012 when I got this thing so the key is gone. anybody know anything about finding the key for this thing?

now i'm just guessing that there are instructions about stopping the windows from spying using 8.1. and stopping the download windows 10 thing from popping up and to remove and hide 4 or so programs for something. if you can steer me in the direction of where the answer is already posted, that would help a lot.
thank you for your time.

If you still have the Factory Recovery Image (Partition) ??
then you may be able to retrieve the office key

Microsoft is pushing a Out of Band update this coming Tuesday to kill their desire of wanting every user running Windows 7 & 8 to be placed on Windows 10. As for Office 2k10, there is nothing you can do without the key. You can still get it on amazon.com, but you are looking at paying a pretty penny for it.

If it came as a trial with the OS, it will no longer activate and the user would only get the option to download 2016 at this point. The best option for the OP is to use the Office Online edition at Office.com. The only sad thing is that they are required to have a One Drive account and any files created and stored in the One Drive cloud, will take away from total storage, unlike Google cloud.

what is a factory recovery image? and how do I deal with the windows using 8.1 to spy on me? I read there was 3-4-5- or so things to be removed. but if you did not hide them, they would be uploaded again.

When I first got a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet, it came with Office 2013. In order to activate the software, I had to enter the Product Key that was provided on some paperwork that came with the tablet. I suspect that the OP's case was similar and if Office was never activated the product key will not be in the factory image or anywhere else on the machine.

@Commander - Do you know if Office was ever activated on the machine?

If you can't get a Product Key for Office, you might consider some of the free office suites that are available such as LibreOffice, OpenOffice, WPS Office, etc... These suites can read and write MS Office compatible documents.

never turned on. in fact, just found I had it about a month or so.

oh and I always keep the "don't let other websites ask if they can track you. or something like that. it was to stop people wanting to tracking me. but it kept going off. now it's grayed out and cant be clicked on at all. anyway to go around that? or is it that spying software I need to kicked off this PC?

and that "free" stuff you get off the net is never free. the reason I got this Epson xp-820 is because it works off the xp PC and does pretty much what these office things do.
