Solved Windows not recognizing new Asus CD/DVD drive

#1
I recently put in a new Asus CD/DVD drive into my Windows 8.1 desktop.

The system is both recognizing and not recognizing it.

It shows up under "devices" as "ASUS DRW 24F1ST" and I was able to use the drive with Exact Audio Copy.

However, when I put a disk in the drive and click on the drive on My Computer, it says there's no disc inside and to "please insert a disc". iTunes also cannot recognize any disc being in the drive even when there is one.

So what's going on? How do I fix this?

Thanks, but that wasn't it.

I still get the same problem. I put a disc in the drive, double click on DVD RW Drive F and it says "No disc found--please insert a disc".

It shows up in the Device Manager and everything.

Yeah. I don't know what to say =\

The drive works fine with Exact Audio Copy. The second I put an audio CD in, Exact Audio Copy loads the CD perfectly. But iTunes doesn't recognize it and Windows doesn't recognize it. Could Exact Audio Copy be "taking over" somehow?

Thanks, but when I look at the drive in the devices, it doesn't report any problem. It says that it's working properly, even though it's not. I also tried the utility--it didn't work.

Also, I just tried hooking up my portable USB CD drive and I'm getting the same problem. Apparently NO CD drive will work now.

Thanks for all your help guys, but I've discovered the problem is the program I was using, not the drive. If Exact Audio Copy is open when I put a CD in, then Exact Audio Copy "takes over" and doesn't allow any other program to use the drive. When EAC is closed, however, the drive functions normally. It's something to do with EAC itself. And that's a different topic altogether.
