just to mention : windows media player can play shared music from other PCs on the network

Are you trying to share music to other computers? Or are you trying to share to some device connected to a tv?

You may want to just use a NAS then. You could try WinAmp or VideoLan on all units, and see if that fixes things. At least with Video Lan, you can set the computer as a Server, then access with Android & iOS devices to the shared library. Just remember that with how Metro was created, that JavaScript and ActiveX is always going to cause issues.

Most people that are doing sharing, are using a NAS as storage space. Microsoft needs to get rid of Windows Media Player at this point. They really are not putting too much into the software. They are just fixing little things, to keep it capable of working on the nextgen Windows. I remember when WMP 7.x came out with ME. Worse version that MS designed.

On my iPhone, I use Air Music for sharing to my Blue Ray player. My son uses iTunes on his Macbook to play back on a Blue Tooth capable Speaker set, that is really pretty good.
