Windows Infinity?

Yeah, if there's "Infinity", then logically, there couldn't be anything after that.

They could call the release after Infinity "Beyond Infinity" and be damned with the paradox.


If MS had the gift of foresight, they should have named XP "Infinity" due to it's prolonged shelf life.



However, whilst it does have a nice superficial ring to it, the implications and connotations to the word 'Infinity' renders it unsuitable as a name for an Operating System.

Furthermore, the '-finity' part of the word would unintentionally draw a close correlation to AMD's 'Eyefinity' technology and considering Microsoft currently has closer business ties with intel than AMD, it's automatically rendered unsuitable in that regard as well.

Exactly.
Logic isn't a high priority for very many companies these days though, not just MS.......it's pretty much a never ending list.
I'd assume they'll keep it simple with the name, personally I would call it WIN 8. No confusion, nothing flashy.

I think I'd be inclined to go with the number, Windows 8, I think that sounds a lot better for the next OS than Infinity, just because Bill Gates handed over I don't think it should mean they've come to the end of the line when it comes to making OS's

The number naming convention works fine, Apple did it for years, who knows why they stopped, most software does it, Windows started doing it and they've got one of the most recognizable versions to date. Why do you think XP was so much more well known than Vista? Well other than the fact that Vista gives everyone nightmares. *Shudder* XP is just a bit easier on the tongue than Vista...

I like the name, why. It could and might be the last Windows OS, because the next one after Infinity could be all cloud based so why would they need a name?

I don't know, I like the name but I do agree that it's not logic...

I would call it W/8 - easy to type. Those long names always end up with obscure abbreviations. However, such a short name is usually hard to clear in a worldwide name search because usually someone already has used it.

I think numbers are way better... Windows 8... a simple and nice name.. just like Windows 7...

I think it should be something that obnoxious-ly links it to Microsoft Something like.... introducing the latest and greatest in computer Os's .... presendinggggggg microsoft's microsoft.

I can seriously see them naming it something that just = MS. Maybe call it... MS's OS?
