Windows doesn't boot after trying to create a partition

Hi guys, I just purchased a brand new laptop (Lenovo s400) with Windows 8 (which was promptly updated to 8.1) and since I don't like having OS and personal files on the same disk, I used Partition Master for creating a new Partition to keep my files. After PM rebooted the system, Windows doesn't boot and shows an error coded 0xc0000225. Lenovo adds a button to access System Recovery, but again I get the same error. As far as I can remember, I've never seen a recovery partition and no disks were included (Silly me, should've created a recovery USB drive as soon as I took it out of the box).
I've reached to Lenovo's tech support but it was rather frustrating, and I would like to emphasize that this hard drive wasn't formatted, just re sized.
Any thoughts?

Hi there
did you set the new BOOT partition to ACTIVE - not the DATA partition you created.. Partition master might also corrupt partitions if your system has a secure boot. I'd recommend next time use GPARTED.

Anyway do you still have the RECOVERY feature from Lenovo -- you might be able to run that from the BIOS menu --it's been a while since I had a Lenovo laptop but they are usually pretty good (apart from customer service but customer service is ALWAYS BAD -- you can imagine a poor woman trying to speak ICELANDIC from a call center in Bangalore or wherever !! and the customer at the other end trying to understsand !!. (Actually they only use some sort of "English" which for a lot of non native speakers is almost impossible to understand -- even my mates in Liverpool are easier !!!!).

I tried to set the partition active and diskpart said "The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk. The ACTIVE command can only be used on fixed MBR disks." And system recovery also takes me to the same blue screen with the error code mentioned above.

Hi there
the disk is probably a GPT disk - try disabling SECURE Boot from the BIOS -- (you don't have to switch off UEFI) - just disable the secure boot.

If that fails then try and enable boot in LEGACY mode and see what happens.

Sounds like you damaged your boot manager! and damaged or lost your recovery partition you'll have to Clean Install! If I understand what you did, this is what has happen. You can't make a partition active, Disk are active. protocol would have been to shrink your C: partition, Shrinking it would have left unused space, this unused space you would have created a new partition D: and formatted it NTFS. I have found MiniTool partition wizard to work flawlessly in UEFI GPT environment and its free.
I'm not familiar with Lenovo's but if you can't get a recovery disk from them, you'll have to find a Win 8.1 Iso and all the hardware drivers for your particular NB. There are guides out there to accomplish this you'll have to goggle them up. I'm New on this site here, so there may be something here also? It can be accomplished I have been able to clean Install win 8.1 Pro on a win 7 Home premium Notebook. I used this Guide for my Notebook This one is specific for my Notebook, you'll have to find one for yours or adapt the procedure would be the same but you'll need to find your own hardware drivers.

Are you using the Windows 8 version?

Have you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

I would recommend you making the OEM manufacturer's Recovery DVD's or USB drive.

I just had to do something a lot like this, I had to move a whole hard drive from the old drive to the new drive, 4 partitions.

I used Paragon Partition Manager 9, which was not designed to 8, but I only used it to make a recovery CD, and I used that recover CD to move the drive, I used "Copy Raw Data" and it was all good.

After that, I used Mini Tools Partition Wizard 7.6 to move the two system partitions to the end of the drive and enlarge the System partition, no problems.

Who makes Partition Master, was it the same as who made Partition Magic? That program always bricked my systems.

Sometimes I have been able to use Partition Wizard Home Ed to "Rebuild MBR" on bricked HDs, then I was able to use FixMBR/FixBoot in XP and Bootrec /FixMBR and /ScanOS in 7 and 8.

If you can find a copy of Hiren's Boot CD version 13, it has a "Windows XP/Vista/7 Boot Loader" that should also work for 8, that can get you back into your system and then you can use the BCDedit command to repair the boot loader.
