I'm running the Windows Developer Preview 64 bit w/o developer's tools on my computer. I installed it through an iso mounted to a USB flash drive. Now, months later, it says I need to insert the disk to repair Windows. (It froze and when I restarted it said this). I can only download the consumer preview now, rendering me unable to fix it. I want to update to the Consumer Preview on my computer for the purpose of the iso being "corrupt" (missing different files each time) no matter how many times I try to redownload and remount it. If anyone knows of somewhere I can download it or has it saved somewhere and is willing to upload it somewhere, I would greatly appreciate it.:D

Hi,

Easiest choices of many:

1) Try booting to safe mode then open an elevated command prompt and run this command to fix it:

sfc /scannow

2) Just custom install the Consumer Preview.

3) If you still have the USB intact, use that to repair.

There might be something wrong with your hard drive, because Windows files do not really become corrupted otherwise, causing freezes. (Maybe 3rd party software over-writting but still probably would not freeze.)

Once you have any operating system up and running, run this command from an elevated prompt:

chkdsk /r

I can't boot in safe mode because I can't boot it at all. I've been trying to install the Consumer Preview all day, but it said that it couldn't find install.wim, and I re-downloaded and redid everything, but it still couldn't find that file from the English x64 iso. Is there any other way I could do this than the iso? I'm downloading it on one computer and putting it onto another.

Wow. I just tried the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to mount the same image it called invalid earlier and it worked this time. I'm just bewildered. I hope this installs correctly.
