Just installed Win 8 in VMware today.
15 updates installed successfully.
A few hours later, Windows Defender KB2267602, definition 1.125.4350, 59.7 MB update failed to installed.
Error code 8050A003

Ant idea ?

EDIT:
Found something strange.
I opened the View Updates history, and I found out that the update was installed successfully when it was offered the first time.
A few hours late, same update was offered again, and this time it failed to install.

Yeah man, I know what you did.

You used CCleaner with CCEnhancer, to delete Windows Defender stuff. (Uncheck those 2 boxes so the future will be well with this.)

To fix it: Type services.msc in the Start menu then press Enter. Disable and stop the Windows Defender service.

Then right click on this and choose "Run as Administrator", even if your account is Admin privileged:

64 bit: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=87341

When done installing, set the Windows Defender service to automatic and start it.

Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and delete all the contents inside. Run a new Windows Update to see if it no longer offers a huge Defender update. If not, it's fixed.

Thank you very much.

1. Yes, I did use CCleaner. I am not sure what is CCenhance.
The Windows Dedender checkbox is now un-checked.

2. I already have Malwarebytes (free edition ) installed.

3. Deleted all contents inside Download folder, EXCEPT there is a AM_Delta.exe in it too. I left that one alone. Do I delete it too ?

4. Ran Windows Update again. Seems like you have fixed it.

Thank you.

Cannot Disable Defender

Would love to try this but I cannot disable Defender (even though I am the only user and administrator) - can you advise?

With Window 8.1 you have to go Open Action Center (system tray, click on white flag) and disable Defender there. After disabling Defender in that location first, you can then access Services.msc to enable it. Silly but apparently the way Microsoft wants it.

I have this problem on a Win 10 Home based computer. Cannot disable Defender.

Deleted all files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download, and retried update, but the problem were still there. Clicked on Try Again, and Voila!
Thanks!
