Windows 8 Will Have a "Kill Switch" - The Vigilant Citizen

A kill switch that can remotely delete software and edit code without the user’s permission.

This applies to Windows Store apps only, I think apple's app store can do something similar. If an app was released on the Windows Store and downloaded and installed; then later was found to be malicious in an unfortunate event, it would have to be deactivated to protect the user's information and the PC.

Although it may be well intended to protect me, there should be choice. If implemented, it should be left to the user if one wants to participate. As an end user, my device is my responsibility, not MS nor anyone else. IMO it's about choice. When that's taken away, I have a problem.

There is always that choice that should be there, but in all reality, how many people in the majority even know Windows 8 has such to begin with? Would they really care if that's an option or not? And also, how many times will such a thing ever happen? Considering Microsoft has to go through and validate the apps for publishing on the Windows Store, I'd bet they're pretty good at catching anything odd with the apps off the bat. I'm really not concerned at all.

Apple has this, with the ability to turn it on or off. There was talk about Firefox having it, as they have blocked flash, etc. But it is not a true killswitch. A Guy

I am really not worried since I USUALLY only download applications from a app store and also most of the time the application I am downloading is a well known app that should be uploaded on purpose on malicious evilness. For those of you who worry I am sure you use other services that violate your privacy a million times worse.

I may be in a minority, but I've always maintained that the only person who should
have the right or ability to block/uninstall anything on my computer, is me.

Microsoft's Desktop Gadgets is a good case in point. MS claims that there were
security issues so simply removed them. I'd never experienced these issues nor
known of anyone who had, so I replaced them. Still haven't had a problem. And if I
did have a problem, it'd be nothing I can't handle or deal with.

MS should have alerted users to the issue, but left it up to the user as to whether
to remove them or take the (small) risk of continuing to use them.

Oh yeah, especially if you're a mac user with the safari browser and you happen to have certain privacy settings changed within it and use google's services in the UK...
