Solved Windows 8 RTM Mail app

Hi

On Windows 7 I was able to check several POP and IMAP accounts using Windows Live Mail. I don't seem to be able to add any accounts to the Mail app under the 'Other Account' type. I enter the email address, user id, password, IMAP and SMTP addresses, unclick the SSL boxes for incoming and outgoing and click Connect. Eventually a red message is displayed

We still can't find settings for [email protected]. Providing this additional information may help. If you don't know this information search online or check with your provider.

I log in to Windows 8 using my Microsoft account id. Does this make a difference?

What needs to be done to enable accounts to be added in Mail?

Richard Williams.

From what I have read the Mail App does not support POP and IMAP. I use Windows Live Mail with Windows 8 RTM and also with Windows 7.

I'm able to connect to my Gmail and Windows Live/Hotmail accounts with the Mail app, but I'm not sure what protocol is being used. However, with the Gmail account I see all my folders and they are accessible and are updated the same way they were using Outlook with an IMAP connection. It seems to behave just like an IMAP connection as far as I can see.

The connection was all done automagically after inputing my username/address and password.
