Installation for me on my old test machine took 17 minutes, including the "non-express" bit at the end. A little time up there, ticking and unticking the squares!

I'll know soon enough since I have tied up trying to get the old Vista case running and stuck on a possible DOA board situation. First the RP will go on a new VM and then shutdown to unplug the 7 host drive for a clean on the second HD where I can then add a boot entry in for 7 once the host HD is plugged back in.

14min. left for the 64bit iso with only 7 for the 32bit both being downloaded together. Have a few flash drives sitting idle looking for something to do! :D

The Release whatevers are always a definite improvement over the CPs or beta builds depending on how you look at that. There are far less bugs by that time still needing to be worked out. Plus the RP will provide a much better look at where the RTM will be going later!

It took around 15 minutes to download and just over to install, with all my settings carried over from the CP. Too bad it couldn't reinstall the programmes, anyway, it will give me something to do.
Like others have said, this is very slick, this should run on just about anything you can throw at it, cant wait to try it on my old Netbook.
I do a bit of travelling so I really love the travel App, cant wait to try out some more stuff.

Don't plan on many DX9 games in particular! This will be a big let down for all those older game titles that include a required DX9 installer since that will fail and the games won't install or run. :( DX9 goes right on 7 where many will be staying.

Once 8 hits retail I will likely set up a dual boot with one of the lesser editions like Home Premium unlike 7 where the Ultimate edition was the one. I'll be looking over the compatibility for a large list of things now that the RP is out as well as improvements in other areas as far as it being a second OS.

hey Guys! Can you post a link to a torrent for the Release Preview please?

Thank You
Shon John Xander
Why torrent? There are direct downloads available for free at Microsofts site!

That's the never ending question there! Why people bother with possible malware laced crud from some unknown site over going for the "genuine article" and see it activated is beyond me.

MS has made the W8 Developer, Customer, and now Release Preview widely available and no need to sign up anywhere in order to download, install, and run it.

Thanks John. Downloading now. Going to try it in VBox and if that doesn't work VMPlayer.

I put the CP in VM Player. There you add the iso as a new dvd drive to get it installed correctly. The latest VM Player 4.02 not 4.01 released in December is the one to go with. The previous has a few bugs corrected in the newer release.

Installed in VBox. WDDM video is playing up. May have to remove it. Shame it worked OK in the W8CP.

Been away for days, suddenly found Windows 8 Preview Release available for download.
Unfortunately I will still be going out of town for couple more days. :(

I guess this W8P will only be out for few months before Windows 8 is released. ;)

anybody else getting an error saying CPU incompatible? here's a screenshot:

Are you trying to install a 64 bit version on 32 bit CPU?
No, I'm installing a 64bit version of windows 8 release preview to a 64bit version of windows 8 consumer preview using a Q6600 which is 64bit compatible

MrNeeds I installed the release preview to the computer in the snip below which has a Q6600 processor and the install went flawlessly however I did not do an upgrade install but a clean/custom install formatting the drive first.
