Windows 8 Pro - Throttling/Stopping Downloads?

Hi All,

Just upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 8 Pro as I was finding Vista to bloated and slow. I've been trying to have one of my usual evening gaming sessions and have been having nothing but problems and am cursing my choice to update.

I have been finding that whatever I try to download, be it Flash player plugin (stopped at 40%), Steam updating itself(stopped at 26%), MechWarrior Online patcher (stopped at 138MB), Guild Wars patcher (stopped at 15%) the download starts and then gradually throttles itself down to zero.

I have no idea how it is doing this??

I've just ran an ISP speedtest and it doesn't appear to be my ISP? My connection was working fine before I upgraded last night? That leaves me squarely blaming Win8.

I've got a local build PC that I've had a couple of years, Core i7, 3GB DDR3 RAM running on 2 500GB HD's, Radeon graphics card. The only thing I can think of off the top of head is that all these programmes are on my second HD (/d:) where Win 8 isn't installed?

Help!

Far as I know you can't run a game or program from another drive and expect it to work right in Windows 8 on a different drive.

If it's a wireless connection most likely it's the metered connection being off that is causing this problem. But of course why would anyone be gaming from a wireless connection.

If this is a wired connection then updating the drivers for the Ethernet connection is the obvious fix.

Hi, thanks for response. It's a wired connection straight to my router by Ethernet. I'm connected as a network (home). I've checked the metered connection tutorial and metered is already switched off.

Do I need to 'install' windows or some sort of Win8 infrastructure on my second HD, how do I do that?

The whole throttling thing still feels weird.
