Hello folks i am getting a new motherboard soon and i just wanted to see if i could take my hard drive with windows 8 OEM - i upgraded it to windows 8.1 - and put that hard drive to my new motherboard. I have read my research and practically if you place your OEM windows 8 hard drive into a new motherboard it is taking a 50/50 chance of a bullet hitting you. Therefore my only solution is..uhm  doing a clean install Then after that clean install i will do it again once i get my new motherboard The reason why i am asking for this is because i am completely broke and in dire need of help because i have bought a pretty... expensive motherboard and a new processor

Asus maximus Forumla VII - New motherboard

Intel i7 4790k 4GHZ haswell - New CPU

And i am completely broke and cannot buy a retail version of windows 8.1 i hope you can understand my situation and if not then i completely understand :geek:

- PC MASTER RACE!

If the version of windows was preinstalled originally on your computer and you change the motherboard the Windows Key will no longer be valid. You will have to purchase another license.

Possibly ... first see what happens with the new Mobo.
Then you can address any issues.

I'd see if MS will help before doing a reset - although they might tell you that's what you have to do.
Here's a tutorial:
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2302-reset-windows-8-a.html

I would backup the existing system - just in case.
Read though this tutorial (check the links too)
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/8956-system-image-create-windows-8-a.html

I haven't been on Win8 long enough to have tested all of the features/functionality. The tutorial references issues with System images, so you might use 3rd party imaging software instead as mentioned in the tutorial.

Also, check the Related Tutorials at the bottom of the tutorial page (not the comments, but the tutorial)
