Solved Windows 8-missing app list?

I just got a new HP Envy Win 8.1. On the l/h side of the screen, below the bottom row of apps is a down arrow. Tat gives me the full list of installed apps and 'added' apps.

On my wife's Win 8 system, there doesn't appear to be a similar list. Or I haven't found it yet!

I would like to know what is on there, apart from the ones on the Metro page.

I don't think that arrow is there on Win 8 machines.

If it is touch machine, just swipe up on the screen from a blank spot on the metro screen should do it.
