I dunno, when the apps lose focus, they aren't doing a thing. Ram usage isn't a big deal at all.

If it's running on a plugged in PC I don't care if 100,000 apps are running. Everything you use on your phone will drain your battery unless it's closed. If MS can keep apps open and fully suspended on battery devices without comparable drain like every other device ever made, great. I'll believe it when I see it.

Suspend doesn't use up battery like your saying it does. If suspended apps were that big of a problem don't you think mobile devices would stop using that? Why don't you show us just how much battery is being used up as you say it is. I mean solid fact not just what you think is happening. Show us some shortened battery life that matters I want to know how much difference there is in numbers undisputed fact from a reliable test. Then maybe your opinion on this will matter more.

Corpsecrank, you wrote this elsewhere:
I may actually enter the mobile world once this OS is in full swing simply because of it. I had up till now completely avoided mobile because I don't want to bother with any of the current mobile OS platforms. They suck I don't care what anyone else thinks that is how i feel about them. I have other reasons I dislike mobile but that is at least half my gripe right there.

You apparently don't even own a freaking phone. And you blast me for my "opinion"? It's a fact that I have to manually and repeatedly shut down many allegedly suspended apps on my phone or else the battery drains to blood red in no time. I don't care if you don't like Apple or Android - but you don't even use the stuff. Sorry, but it's a little hard to take your opinion seriously.

Hello Lehnerus,

They are suspended to sit in memory (RAM) where it does not use any system resources. The green info box at the top of the tutorial below can give you more details about this though. :)

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/4125-apps-close-windows-8-a.html
Sounds like the cached apps in Win7. They are benign and don't bother anybody. It would only get critical if there was not enough RAM. I wonder whether they would then land on the disk. Probably an updated version of Superfetch managing all that.

Nope, they only sit suspended in RAM. If the RAM is needed by something else, then the app is closed/purged from memory automatically to free the memory for what needs it. Thus, no resources used while suspended. :p

I'm just going to say that Metro apps do need a close button. They can be closed by dragging them below the screen but clicking on a close button on the upper right is a more obvious way of closing an app and have it totally off, not consuming resources, not sitting idle in the RAM, not doing anything whatsoever as they are closed right there on the spot at that precise moment.

Also, a minimize button on the top right would be helpful too isn't it? MS just went on the trend of other tablet OS whose apps don't have a close button or window controls. If MS had window control on their Metro apps, wouldn't that be an advantage at least to those dull apps on other tablet OSs?

They weren't making the best of decisions. Sometimes, the best decisions come from the most obvious reasons.

Thats because they don't realize that they don't have to close them, average users who use ipads, and smart phones will be right at home. But power users well new concepts are hard for them to grasp.

How hard a concept to grasp is big battery drain?

Exactly. Supsending it means suspending in RAM. More RAM usage=more battery power regardless. With laptops/smartphone/tablets you would want every single source of juice you can get.
