Windows 8 Media Center Pack - Wasn't It Supposed To Be Free For Pro?

Or was I seeing things wherever I read that? Maybe that was only free for those purchasing the 8 upgrade from other OS's?
I got my OS from my Technet Plus account. By the way, it works just fine.

Same here. It stated it is available from Oct 26 so you may not get it until tomorrow. Also it has to be activated before Jan 31. But its free.

OK, because it's going to mean that I will have to run an elevated cmd script to change the product key when I get it. They don't make things easy on 8.

I'll stay in my Vista OS until the emails come in, I re-requested them so will probably get several...LOL

NO. Under Control Panel use Add Features to Windows 8 and chose "I already have a product key" and enter the new key.

I must have missed that, will take a look when I boot into 8 later, thanks. Once this feature had been added I thought that link had been removed but I could be wrong. It certainly wasn't present on the desktop, right-click Computer > Properties. It just tells me it's activated and when I look at the details gives the new key and no option to change it there like in other OS's.

In any case as they refunded it the key will eventually be detected as invalid and hopefully then the system will ask for a new one, if the above doesn't pan out.

Well I couldn't wait to take a look and no that option isn't there any more.

This is as close as I can get which gives no option to change the product key:

I didn't know you already installed the other key. There was a note on the MS site that said to remove WMC you had to do a clean install of Windows 8 Pro. Looks like you are in the pickle barrel on this one. Maybe a call to MS support is in order.

There is a way of changing the key or removing the old one and starting activation in motion again I found on the Internet. It just has to be a key for Win 8 w/MC that's all.

How to edit or change Windows 8 Product Key

Had problem entering new Windows 8 product key and activating it with DNS error. Lookup and found we can change the product key the same way as how to change in Windows 7.

Solution:

Run command prompt as Administrator
Type ‘slmgr.vbs /ipk’ followed by your (TechNet or MSDN) product key. (I suspect any product key as long as the Win 8 version is the same)

slmgr.vbs /ipk SSSSS-TTTTT-UUUUU-VVVVV-WWWWW
Last step, will be activating the Windows after changing the key.

slmgr.vbs –ato

You’ll see a pop up message box once you have successfully activated the product.

Thanks

OK, it was like pulling teeth but got a refund finally.

I used that link you gave and have been waiting for that email to arrive for at least an hour now...did you use it?
Same here. It stated it is available from Oct 26 so you may not get it until tomorrow. Also it has to be activated before Jan 31. But its free.
