Solved Windows 8 - Folder Backgrounds (Like XP, or Win7 with app)

Hello,

This is my first post to this forum. I really enjoy reading everyone's comments and wanted to thank you for hosting this forum.:D

Question: Does anyone know how to enable Folder Backgrounds in Windows 8 on a "PER FOLDER BASIS"? Windows XP,2000 could do this by default, and Windows 7 could do this with a 3rd party application.

This is the only remaining thing I would like to do in Windows 8, is to make Folder Backgrounds. (This is because my handicapped eyesight works a lot easier if I have folder wallpapers to help me with my work). Can anyone provide guidance on how to do this?

Below is a photo of what I am trying to do. See how the regular folder has a wallpaper picture?
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wi9-K60qs...oad+Windows+7+Folder+Background+Changer-1.png

Thank you very much,
Regards
Sabin

Edit: Solved the problem! See post repaste:
Ah, I was able to create a different wallpaper for each folder now. Note, that Winblinds Does NOT do this, and the developer said they would eventually. Thus,

...
I found another freeware called AveFolderBG (which at the time of this post didnt work on Win8, but now it works on Win8!). I attached it (it is freeware, thankfully!) to this thread in case it gets deleted from the web, because i could not find its developer website. Its basically a Batch file with a a DLL. Nothing special.

I hope to share this with eightforums in case others who want PER FOLDER WALLPAPERS can use it.

Enjoy!:dinesh::dinesh::dinesh:

Ubuntu 9.10 is the safest and optimal version with the of the Gnome2 Library files which is compatible with the base libraries. 10.04 is ok, but 12.04/14.04 onwards requires a powerful GPU, thus Ubuntu 9.10 is the best version of Ubuntu for life.

Hello,

Thank you for your quick response. That video shows another application, but this is not compatible with Windows 8. I was not able to use that software to create folder wallpapers in Windows 8. It only works in Windows 7.

That application requires Net Framework 3.5. Was that the roadblock or did it just not work with 3.5 installed?

Hello, I tried to use W7FBC, but it does not seem to work on my machine. Here is a photo. My old XP machine has a lot of folders with customized backgrounds for our handicapped users (who cannot see with bad eyesight), so I am trying to find a way to make folder wallpapers.

Any ideas? Thanks for all the commentsW7FBC-DidNotWorkForMe.png

Interesting you are using ubuntu 9.10.

Any reason you haven't got a more recent version? Just curious.

Thank you very much. Ok I will use the demo version of Windows Blinds. I appreciate your help very much. Thank you soooo much.

Yes, I use Ubuntu 9.10 for accessibility reasons, our handicaps require the fonts to be a certain size and dpi settings post Ubuntu 9.10 are not compatible with some of our x16 assembly software. We took the old Ubuntu 9.10 and use a special environment which seems to work best. The newer Ubuntu 12.04+ is very nice, but it doesn't handle the assembly software we use.

Thank you very much everyone I appreciate your help.

Ahh.. Sorry one more question... Window Blinds cannot do this on a folder to folder basis right? I was hoping I can set each folder to its unique individual wallpaper (just like desktop.ini worked in Windows XP).

Any guidance?

Folder Changer 3.5 Couldnt install

In further Research, I found that there is a program by Zillasoftwares which can install folder wallpapers. I tried this in Windows 8 but could not get it to work.

Can anyone try this program and tell me if they were able to run it in Windows 8?

Althought the website claims the software to be Win 8 compatible, it isn't. I just tested their latest version for you (3.7.1) and it does not work. I get the exact same error as you. Sorry it didn't work.

Hey David,

I think you found one piece of the installation puzzle, and that led me to a few more pieces, and when I put all the pieces together, I was able to install it and get it to open correctly. See here:

Screenshot (39).png

What I did:

1- Unblocked the exe (as suggested by you)
2- Went to the compatibility tab and ticked "Run in Compatibility Mode for Windows 8" and "Run as Admin"

Once done, I clicked the executable and it installed correctly. Nice find on your part.

So, maybe the OP can do the same and test it to see if it fits his needs. Hopefully, he'll let us know because I don't want to do full testing myself.
