windows 8 files are opening with single click instead of double click

I already have the

Folder Options​

, General, Double click option selected. For some annoying reason files are opening with a single click instead of a double click. How would I go about fixing this?

Maybe your mouse "Double-click" speed is set too fast? Alter the "Double-Click" speed in the Mouse/Buttons window. Also, if this has just started to happen, maybe your mouse "click" action has developed a bounce so a single click is being "seen" as a double-click so try a different mouse.

Are you using a laptop?
Some manufacturers add utilities that can control the mouse's functions so I would start by checking if there is another program conflicting with Windows' mouse settings.
