My windows 8 computer is extremely slow and hangs often. It is nearly impossible to run simple programs such as file explorer or task manager. I almost always have to hard power off. I need help, thanks.

First thing with a slowing machine is to back up the data. Could be a HDD failing and you don't want to risk data loss. Once backed up check for virus and malware and run a HDD scan.

Sorry, should have typed it out. HDD = hard drive. It is not uncommon for a failing hard drive to slow the machine. I always back up client data on a slow machine first, in case it is a hard drive issue. I then run antivirus and diagnostic software. Since malwarebytes came back clean I would suggest you test your drive with the manufacturer's utility next.

Hmm, I should tell you that whenever I start up the computer, I receive a message saying "Scanning & Repairing Drive" I let the computer do its thing for a while but it always gets stuck at 38%. I looked online and many other people have similar problems. (This started 2 days ago). I had to watch a YouTube video about how to get past the problem.

What brand of drive do you have? You can get the model number from device manager, then go to drive manufacturer's site and download their diagnostics. I would suggest backing up your data before doing anything else. I've had drives crash on me in the middle of diagnosing the issues.

Yes it will be under disk drives. Have you allowed Windows disc check to run overnight to see if it will get past the 38% mark? I've seen it take quite some time to complete.

My drive is a Toshiba mq01abd050 data disk device. I searched it at toshiba support and was told that "my entry does not appear valid". As for the scanning disk thing, I looked online many people had it stuck at various percentages for hours. I will try leaving it on tonight though, and see what happens.
