Windows 8 Desktop Mode Apps have no access to internet

i have just discovered my desktop mode is completely dead of internet connection, I cant use utorrent or email etc.
the metro works fine its just the desktop that's dead. I run wireless

any ideas??

i've just installed windows 8 and got the same problem but my desktop works fine and metro has no internet connection

Yes, third party security soft wares are problematic, either you can uninstall them or re-install with the latest updated version.

I just uninstalled AVG but still have the same problem. My HP Laptop is running Windows 8. IE, Netflix, and other APPS that require internet work fine from the APPS page, but once I open Desktop no Internet access using any program, IE, Mozilla, TeamViewer, etc.

Very frustrating ...

This problem is usually from either Winsock or the TCP/IP stack requiring a reset which is a very common problem.

Run the following two commands one at time, use an elevated command prompt, hit enter after each command "in bold". Then restart your machine. :)

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

Glad it worked. I asked in my thread what exactly this does and how it fixed my issues but no response. I will keep these commands handy if it happens again!
