Windows 8 Build 7989 leaked

Fresh screenshots from a Milestone 3 copy of Windows 8 leaked to the Internet on Friday.
Read more here

The article is brief, but it shows 2 out of 4 new screenshots of the build 7989, a Milestone 3 copy built in April. BetaArchives members seem to be both trying to get and leak this built, while also discussing whether this is actually real or not. The topic can be found here. I hope the thread title is not misleading, so let me just state that, as far as I know, build 7989 is not an official beta, or any other "officially" released build, for that matter.

Think I'll reinstall and try that RedPill version. I've fubar'd my system any way, trying different AVs. Of all that I've tried, I've only found that PCTools works satisfactorily (I've only tried free AVs, as I don't see the point in spending money where there's no need, meaning that I haven't tested the likes of Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky etc).

General info I've read about these Pills.

You should un-install the previous Red Pill before installing a new one.

Rumors are, you should run sfc /scannow right after installation, before anything is loaded.

The first install was hanging, so re-installed and ran sfc, then the Red Pill 1.3.9.1, then UTR 7989.
Seems to be running better.

Well ,yesterday I've made Windows clean install (again) ,and again ,after enabling newest RedPill ,PC freezes on shutdown or reboot!
Although everything else is working better then with previous versions.

I'm still getting short hangs, mostly in explorer. Better than before, guess this is due to the Red Pill, without it, it's fast.

Can't expect too much from a pre beta build. At least we can see the new features and some of the new UI.

Will keep it, until the next build arrives.

I just finished installing Windows 8 as a dual-boot on my laptop. It works great, except for one thing. Installing the drivers for my GPU (NVIDIA Quadro 2000M), desktop composition was disabled and I was no longer able to use Windows Aero. Has this happened to anyone else?

Update: It turns out that any driver installation does this on my computer.

Update 2: Two reboots seem to fix the problem. Windows 8 runs great now. I am guessing this means that it would run great on the ThinkPad T420, T520, and W520.

I have removed it and have gone back to 7955 which was a stable build.
Firefox, avast,Mse don't work properly, the system won't shutdown and it crashed my complete system.
I will wait for a more stable build.

System by itself IS STABLE and fast ,but as I've wrote before ,pill is the problem and it makes it unstable!
And even with RedPill ,except shutdown-restart block ,everything else works fine by me!

Firefox crashes also on 7955 on certain sites ,and MSE works perfectly fine ,just put compatibility to Windows 7!

And 7955 will stop working in two weeks!

I've had RedPill installed and enabled, but have decided to disable it and revert back as it was causing IE to become sluggish. I haven't had chance to reinstall yet, but I might get chance over the weekend (or whenever).

Instead, this afternoon I have been trying out various Email clients to see which ones work on this build and the only one that seems to be satisfactory is Sylpheed (and before you ask, no, I've not heard of it before). Thunderbird also works, but I found it difficult to configure and couldn't get it to send any test Emails.

You can download it here: Sylpheed - lightweight and user-friendly e-mail client

I turned off the Tablet PC components in the Windows Features, and now everything works!

And now everything works faster! Sorry ,I don't use IE ,so don't about it!

I found that Installing this build screwed up my dual boot. I have installed previous builds and dual boot worked like a charm but not with this...

I have outlined a solution Here

Each time I installed new Windows 8 build 'till now ,it hijacked boot priority! Then ,I just installed EasyBCD and repaired it from BCD backup I've made before!

For those who have activated, how did you do it? I have tried all of the Win7 Beta x64 keys and came up invalid. :(

You can't activate this build with Beta keys - it only accepts Retail key ,and you can only activate over the phone!

They must have changed this between my last installation, where I activated online, and this one where I can't. Using the same key on the same build.

    Yup, it's a computer!
I activated with a genuine Windows 7 retail key. No telephone call needed.

"Each time I installed new Windows 8 build 'till now ,it hijacked boot priority! Then ,I just installed EasyBCD and repaired it from BCD backup "

Not sure what you mean there. Windows 8 takes over as the Default, as did Vista and windows 7. easy enough to change in Msconfig, if that is what you mean by "repair"

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
