Windows 8 Actually Sucks.

Power cycle your router, then try the wifi

EDIT>>> apologies, i started at the last page in this issue..

The link below is a youtube tutorial with step by step instructions on how to connect Xbox360 to your 3g dongle via laptop.

The instructions are in a win7 environment, but win8 should be the same, you just have to get to the same network settings via a different route, but the adjustments are the same.. Good luck

Standby. When I get home I will test something out.

Edit.

Meaning, when I get home I will use my phone to simulate a 3g dongle via usb. Then I'll figure out what happens when I try to broadcast the signal.

Okay, thanks very much let me know what you find. :)

Did you try disabling the "Computer Browser" service I mentioned in a an earlier reply about the ICS service? This service is on by default in W8 and doesn't play nice with anything shared including hardware.

So, I tried it with my phone. Basically, I tethered my phone to my laptop via usb and then turned my laptop into a wifi router. I then used my tablet to connect to the signal. I also used my ps3. Everything I tried worked.

I was hoping it wouldn't work so I could see what the problem is. Something is different about your laptop that is preventing you from doing this. Since it worked on my side without a hitch, I've no idea what could be wrong with yours.

It does not make sense that you would have to turn off those services! Firewall, Browser, Server, Workstation - All required for the basic connecting of the computer into outside networks!

The only time I shut down a firewall os for an automotive program called Tracs which serves a database to several computers. And there is nothing like what is happening with that program going on here,

Personally I always keep the windows firewall off, or customised to my liking. However, I make sure my Norton firewall is always on.

Have this exact same problem and can not find any solution whatsoever! I also have upgraded to windows 8 and am now having the issue which was not there beforehand. Has anyone found any possible solution to this?

EDIT:

Okay after internet research i have finally found the solution. All that needs to be done is to restart the ICS in windows. Press the windows button + R at the same time. Then search for 'services.msc'. Locate Internet Connection Sharing and just restart it. This solved the problem for me! Hope this helps.

Hello,

I don't know why it's taken me so long to realise this, but windows 8 is rubbish. I bought this laptop with windows 8 already installed and so far pretty much everything I have wanted to has not worked efficiently like it would have in windows 7 or even XP. There aren't even any solutions to problems I have been experiencing, even after many months posting on various forums. The fault is not of the laptop itself (even so, it's too late to return it now). The laptop is good, its just this OS. So basically I need a way to revert back to windows 7 from this all mighty piece of rubbish. Is this possible? If it's not then that's bullshit.

There is a lot of potential for good sigs in this post . . . I better just move on before I get into trouble. ;)

A word of apology to the OP, first of all. But the original post is the living embodiment of why I almost had a mental breakdown working in IT support. People would call come to me all mad with a problem. Then they made me play scavenger hunt to figure out what their symptoms are. No, "it doesn't work" won't cut it. Can you imagine calling up your doctor and say "doc, there's something wrong with me, fix it. No, I will never ever tell you what my symptoms are. Start asking questions and I'll give you a yes or no answer."

Anyway, the solution to the OP's problem is virtual router plus. It's free and very self explanatory. Please post further questions here and I will be glad to answer them.

Most users have no clue what is wrong with their computer beyond "it's not working". Best bet is to get them out of the way and figure it out for yourself. And don't let them tell you what to do to fix it. I get that one all the time. They tell me I have to go there and do this to fix that. 10 seconds later I ask them to try it again and it's fixed remotely.

Users . . .

Think we're having the exact same issue. Mobile dongle shared via ethernet to 360? The network stage passes everytime when testing connection however the internet stage doesnt pass? I dont really know a great deal about issues like this however I cant seem to workout why it worked once by restarting the ICS but does not seem to be working again?

Yep exact same issue! I didn't mention earlier but somehow I did manage to get it to work on two occasions, but have know idea how. The first time it worked, I disconnected and couldn't connect again. Some time after, it randomly worked again but I had to go and I could not connect again. So I have no idea how to get it to work permanently. It maybe worth your while to check through some of the earlier posts on this thread and have a go at connecting without your ethernet - so either use something like virtual router or connec8 detailed in earlier posts.

Yeah ive had one success and cant get it to connect again. Ive read through the earlier posts and have tried the majority of them, all have worked and created a wireless network but when tying to load the internet through the wireless it doesnt load anything. Have you had any success with these?
