keeps asking for reactivation. does not allow reactivation. I used a registry cleaner. Maybe this is the problem. I have tried a few fixes on other forums. Please let me know what other info I need to share.

0xC004F014 the key is not available. this is the error report. I have had the computer for more than two years. I was even registered to receive windows 10 and then about 2 weeks ago. bam! no more valid windows. ...

We will need to see the full report to determine why windows can't use the installed key to activate.

The problem is :
Service Available: false
The Software Protection service failed to start. 0x80070005

This is due to corrupted permissions on files and registry keys that the licencing service uses.

An offline repair via a restore point is usually the best way to fix this - if you have install media, boot from that and select repair - then choose a restore point prior to deactivation.

oops-- Posted too late.Report already posted. :(

I don't think it worked. I restored all the way back to february. now what. Should I just reinstall windows?

Try activating again.. run command as admin and enter:
slmgr -ato

(NB Just to be clear - restore from within Windows won't work - it must be done from a USB/DVD boot - Windows must not be running while those files are restored)

still the same. any advice? I have to get back to work for now, but I will be back on in a little while.

The other option (other than a re-install) is to run Dism restorehealth - also offline - although I haven't tested that yet.

okay, here is what I found out from the local computer guy. He said the reg is too messed up. He said that I have a factory install and don't have a disk, but he showed me how to do a complete reinstall under update and recovery. He said that it worked on the same problem for his other client. Thoughts?

A reinstall will fix it - backup your personal data first though.

The registry key in question is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\WPA - it stores activation data and doesn't like being messed with.

There is a registry backup under C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack - however that also needs to be restored offline. Just another option if you do not want to reinstall... the latter would ensure a clean system though - up to you. Good luck.

Thank you for the options. However, This computer isn't seriously customized and I had wanted to fresh install for a while, so I guess I will stick with that. if for some weird reason it doesn't work, i guess I will be without options anyways and would have to re-purchase windows. I think however that it WILL work. anyways, Thank you for such wonderful help and kindness in resolving things! Looking forward to windows 10 looks like the company is going in a great direction!

Cheers
