Hi,

I have installed Windows 8.1 with media centre and Office Enterprise 2007.

Both successfully installed, however for the last 3 days it keeps looking / searching for updates from Microsoft Server / Update Centre but has never downloaded anything.

I had to do a fresh install so I know there are a lot of downloads to come.

Does anyone know what the problem is or how I can get it corrected?

I also used CCleaner to repair registry (if a problem existed).

Thanks.

I've just read the topic referred to "Windows Update Never Completes". Not sure if that's the same issue I have. Mine just does not want to communicate with or download from Microsoft. Sure, I can go on the internet , no probs and download from other places but not from Microsoft updates.

You have to update to the latest Windows update client by manually installing KB3172614 via Microsoft Update Catalog after doing a clean install. If not, you won't be able to connect to MS update service. Also, check for to see if a KB3173424 (prerequisite) ,which is the latest servicing stack that supercedes KB3021910 is installed then follow Bat's instructions.

@ Sky Ranch,

Thanks for your reply.

I did download KB2919355 (about 650Mb)as per Bat's instructions, When I tried to install it, message popped up saying it's already installed.

KB3172614 ?
I'm certain I downloaded it and tried to install, message popped up saying, not suitable for my pc. I could double check but certain I had downloaded it, I went onto the internet back to windows update and few hours later still no connection with Microsoft.

I'll try again.
Cheers

@ Sky Ranch,

I've downloaded and installed the files in correct order, successfully installed. Went to updates, after 8 hours the pc still showed the green bar . I'm at a lost as to why it wont connect to Microsoft's update server / Page, going anywhere else on the internet is no problem except Microsoft's update.

Regards

Still no joy. I'm wondering whether I'm missing something.

I have an ASUS P5B Motherboard, suppose to support x64. I use to have XP, then went to Win7 no problems and did have Win8.1 and updated no probs. This happened prior to using Active Kill due to a bad bug. Since installing Win8.1 making a fresh install, this is when I experience the problems with updates.

Where did you get the copy of W8.1? Is it retail or an OEM product key?

I would try doing another clean install of W8.1 and go straight to manually downloading and installing the above mentioned updates then check for updates again.

@ Sky Ranch,

Everything is working good now since the second attempt. Much appreciate your help on this topic.

Cheers
