Windows 8.1 will be getting nearly 30 patches later today

Microsoft plans to release over 30 non-security patches for various versions of Windows later today, but Windows 8.1 will be the subject of the vast majority of those downloads.

The company has released summaries of all these optional patches on its support page, and it's clear that most of them are for fixing problems in Windows 8.1, with some for Windows RT 8.1 and a few for Windows 7. Microsoft released a number of security patches for versions of Windows last week as part of "Patch Tuesday".

So far, Microsoft has not released any specific information on what these patches are supposed to fix, but that should be revealed when they start rolling out via Automatic Update later today.

I just disabled it but hey that's just me. I don't like any tracking enabled on my computer. Things like browsers that ask if they can track errors I disable too. Maybe it does help to make the software better but I don't think they miss me.

I've turned of a few services including windows experience and the help function, problem report settings is set to ask, wonder if either of these or maybe other MS support services are required for this update to install.

21 updates all ok except one KB3022345 which says error code 800F0922 first time I`ve had this happen!!!!

These are optional, do not need to be installed, you should read Microsoft knowledge base or support information on what they are for.
Although my knowledge lacks understanding on most of them, so I decided to keep them off for now. Look them over further again, noticed once 24, then 22 and then 21 updates.

Sorry I had recently had crash problems, I hate to make matters worse as of yet. Pretty sure have it fixed now. Since the updates are not important but optional.

That probably is a wise move on your part - not to install them. I installed all 20 of them on both desktops and since that time, SFC can't correct corrupt files it finds on both pc's. Not positive this is related to the Windows Updates, but very suspect. Am considering rolling pc's back to just prior to these updates and see if that corrects SFC.

John have you tried SFC only once and rebooted? or a few times? because it can take a few tries because the files are in use. You could try a Proper power Reset first, draining all electricity from your system(specially RAM) then booting to desktop and running it immediately before all programs are loaded.

John, ran the file checker yesterday as part of my monthly maintenance and could not correct corrupt files. The DISM command fixed all this. Whether if was a result of the updates, I do not know.
I always install optional updates except for driver updates or unless I know they will cause problems. The recent updates have had no ill effects on my system, touch wood.

Thanks for suggestion - yes, I had tried running SFC at least 5 times with a reboot between each - and tried several runs of DISM and SFC with no success. Finally, I restored the pc back to April 11 (prior to the 20 "Optional" updates on April 21) and success! Both SFC and DISM are working again, so my conclusion (tho it may be faulted) is that those "Optional" Updates were causing problems for me. For now, they are "hidden" and everything seems to be fine again.

If you ever have a "slow day" with nothing pressing to do, you can always install them one at a time with reboots and test it awhile, after a few successful ones image and then go to the next(probably take a few days to do, but at least your system will be patched). But to be honest that would drive me nuts.

Thanks, yes I had been reading about them. Ones I felt to try were ones I felt I needed as of now. Ones not sure of, I held off on doing. Can effect everyone differently I see according to there system what is on it.

Exactly. I have never experienced a problem with an update, hotfix or patch from Microsoft, and then there are others that run into problems EVERY month.
