Quite a few people (including myself) on the Geforce forums getting an install fail on the Geforce experience software which creates a user account. The mod just mentioned we may be dealing with a much bigger problem - Microsoft account corruption. They asked members to try and create another user account. Well I created a local account but when I try to sign in it just returns me back to the log on screen. I ran the Microsoft account tool on this site and ticked fix but this is what I get

Brink - HELP!

Well Nvidia level 2 support mentioned there seems to be a lot of users with corruption after the 8.1 install. They convinced me to do "a repair". Following Brink's fine instructions sadly when I came to choose which files to keep the only option I had was "NONE". Full clean install, 65 Windows 8 updates and then to Windows 8.1. Geforce Experience installs fine, at least for now. But with the clean install I find the Broadcom Netlink Ethernet Adapter which was compatible with Windows 8 NOT compatible with 8.1. Internet connection keeps dropping out. Windows 8.1 isn't even backward compatible with Windows 8. Broadcom knew about the issue at least in September as I am sure Microsoft did (preview) as the issue is posted even in the Microsoft community. No internet access is quite serious but not even a compatibility warning on the 8.1 install. It just applies the driver which doesn't work. I loved Windows 7 and Windows 8. With the 8.1 release, if I get more issues (worried about the next store update) I'm going back to Windows 7.
