Windows 8.1 Updates not working

Hello Everyone,
I'm having a problem with updates so I thought this is the perfect place to find answers.
I'm having Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit. Windows Updates used to work earlier but suddenly it stopped working. Now it gets stuck on checking for updates. I don't even have a slight clue on the problem. A little help is appreciable.

Have you tried using the built in trouble shooting software? Or try this?

yes I tried troubleshooting but it says erros found and fixed. I opened services and started and restarted windows update service. no change
