Note   Note
Note that although you may previously purchase a legit Windows 8 product key, the product key is unlikely able to be used to install or upgrade to Windows 8.1. Hence you will need the following product key to initiate the install or upgrade:

Windows 8 (core): 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

Windows 8 PRO: XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB

The keys above will let you install 8.1, but that's all it does. After installation is complete, you will still have to activate with your own Windows 8 key.

I think the - Kill apps on shutdown instantly (this was default in Windows 8 and has been changed in Windows 8.1, I really want this back) is not meant as in when the OS is being shutdown but the apps themselves.

In Windows 8.1 closing an apps does not kill the app off memory instantly like it did in Windows 8, instead the app stays on the memory in the case you may access it again during the same session for faster app startup; whereas in Windows 8 closing an app via top-left corner actually remove the process from the task manager almost instantly and thus unused apps are taking on idle memory usage when not being used as they do in Windows 8.1.

ahh, ok, I see what you are talking about.
I don't have 8.1 right now,, don't want to install preview.

I wonder if they will sell a Windows Games Pack.

I'm re-uploading a Windows-8-Game-Pack, which should work under Windows-8.1 as well.

:)

Here you go:

PS: packed via WinRAR-5 Beta-3

Most of you running 8.1 RTM, is it on a clean install,or upgrade from 8.1Preview?

Should work either way. I upgraded from Windows-8-Pro-WMC-x64.

OEM-Key's should work btw as well.

A clean install (keeping nothing) over the 8.1 beta (64-bit).

Takes up 49GB with my programs and apps installed, which is miniscule compared to my Win 8 setup at nearly 120GB...!!!

Just goes to show how much carp I had on my 8 setup (mostly other OSes (15) in Virtual-Box, and games). Probably due for a freshener... :p

So far, it runs very well, a few minor glitches but nothing mission-critical. There were no driver or hardware issues (I use manufacturer's drivers, not the MS ones).

It's much easier than the beta to set it up without an MS account and it's easy to avoid the net-centricity if you so desire (as I do). And it runs much more smoothly than the beta..

I liked Win 8 once I'd 'bent it to my will', but 8.1 is a much nicer OS without needing anywhere near as much 'tweaking' to get it the way I want it.

At this stage, I'm very happy.

Wenda.

I did a few days ago a fresh (legit) Windows-8-Pro-WMC-x64 install and started the 8.1-ISO-Setup from the Desktop and had the option to upgrade and to keep everything.

The 8.1-Pro-Install-Key worked without any issues and afterwards I activated with my legit Windows-8-Pro-x64-Key and added the WMC with my legit Windows-8-WMC-Key, which I activated also.

I didn't go offline and I didn't activate via phone / skype.

The only mature issue I have is, that my USB-Ports are not working (Error-Code 19) and had to be disabled.

That's really strange, as I had now issues under Windows-8-Pro-WMC-x64 with it.

I tried to un-install / re-install etc.pp. all the USB-Stuff and even connected all my gadgets on different ports and separately, but I couldn't fix the problem for now.

It's a bit annoying that I can't connect all my gadgets and that I have to use my external USB-3.0-Drives via USB-2.0-Ports.

If someone has a solution for it or knows different drivers etc., then please let me know.

USB-3.0-Boost caused me the issues, but there was no option to just un-install that part, so I had to remove the whole AI-Suite-II and then re-install it, without the Boost-Function, which didn't even re-appear as an option.

Those who like the OLDER Windows 7 classic games (the old Non store ones like Spider Solitaire etc) can install the W7 Games --works fine

Here's drop box link for you --choose the 32 / 64 bit version depending on your system.

ATI 2014 installs fine here

Acronis True Image 2014 does not install with Windows 8.1 x64
Just put 8.1 x64 RTM on, did an UPGRADE over the preview release. Seems to be running as well as the preview release did. Nothing new from what I can see so far.

Hmm... maybe it's this newer version of Windows 8.1 but on the preview copy I have (9431), ATI 2014 installed just fine, and opens as well. Haven't tried an image seeing how my evaluation copy of Win 8.1 is in VM, but...

Anyway...

I got my old machine out of storage and all it has installed is Windows 8 Pro. I gave this 8.1 RTM Pro a try and after the key was accepted it and I told it to keep nothing, it started to install... and then a small window popped up saying Install Failed. I don't know why it would fail, this machine had no problem with the 8.1 preview. I can't be bothered to figure out why it failed, maybe it tried to download updates? The machine is back in storage. I hope that when 8.1 is available in the Windows Store, that it will not do the same.

I hauled this old machine out again and it had major problems, it was not even possible to get into the bios. I had to clear CMOS, load the defaults, etc. etc. and then everything was back to normal. I do not blame Microsoft for my problems, I blame myself for not replacing a $2.50 8 year old CMOS battery.

Windows 8.1 ist Wunderbar! :dinesh:

Acronis True Image 2014 does not install with Windows 8.1 x64
Just put 8.1 x64 RTM on, did an UPGRADE over the preview release. Seems to be running as well as the preview release did. Nothing new from what I can see so far.

Hmm... maybe it's this newer version of Windows 8.1 but on the preview copy I have (9431), ATI 2014 installed just fine, and opens as well. Haven't tried an image seeing how my evaluation copy of Win 8.1 is in VM, but...

8.1 Preview, True Image 2014 installed/ran fine. 8.1 RTM, does not install

Well let's see what happens when the final (8.1) is released. And I'm sure Acronis will address it If it's still an issue.

Right now this is an unauthorized release so...

I wondering if I should redo the install. Would like to ask for users opinions.

I installed Windows 8, fresh format. Upon first boot, put in the 8.1 RTM disk, and installed 8.1
Reading a lot of people just do a full install from 8.1 RTM (and skip 8.0). Would you redo the install or should it be fine how I did it?

True, just odd it works in a preview version, but not 8.1 RTM. Something in coding must have changed

Completely fresh is mostly better, but if you do it with 8.1 atm, then you have to install .NET 3.5 etc. via DISM.

Yes, that's what I ended up doing.

There's an error message otherwise, with a link to an MS troubleshooting page, but the 'fix' listed doesn't work.

All good, now... :)
