Mine has a problem, too, Caper.

It appears that the auto update sends out a power request under 'EXECUTION' showing as xxxxsystem32\svchost.exe (wuauserv) and this stops sleep. Problem is, win 10 doesn't clear this request so no more sleep till you restart.

Event logs\system show the updates being recorded. It is after that my sleep stops.

Can you check this out Caper?

Sometimes, my mom's Windows 8.1 desktop does that. But, most of the time it goes to sleep. It's asleep right now.

Same here. How can you kill it? Turning off automatic updates?

Thanks for that, orbital. Confirms the problem.

No, you can't turn off the automatic updates as that is part of the review deal.

This is now not appropriate for this forum so I intend taking it over to the 'tenforums' site.

Actually I think a Windows 10 fix to sleep (if it exists) is appropriate here and I for one will certainly be following the developments. It appears that there likely won't be a W8 fix and for those who want a sleeping Windows pc W10 may be the only option.

Yes, the requests screen looks a huge improvement over 8.1. It looks like the power management has undergone a big makeover. Pity about the bug still there! Should be easily fixed, though, surely.

You'll have to wait till mid 2015, though!
I figure April-ish.

Though this may be obvious to you, I'm not sure, but this isn't the problem with my Win8.1 install. I've done many tests with no updates where the computer stops sleeping.

So the problem you've moved over to tenforums may not be related to the problem I'm having in Win8.1 at all. But, I think you've probably basically said as much.

This might have been mentioned before, but I can't really check because of the thread size...

Has anyone download HWiFO64.exe and saved a report to try find the supposedly non-ASPM compatible device? When I create a report, this is part of it:

I've got no idea what to do next though, whether this is something to do with the problem or not. Maybe someone who has had the problem on Windows 8.1 can run the report on Windows 8 and tell us whether the status changes?

Just a thought :)

Well it's been a loooong time since I last posted in this thread as my PC has been sleeping like a "baby" after I did a clean install of Win 8.1 Update 1 Pro 64bit on June 2nd. Doing so resolved all the sleep issues I was having with this PC ... until a few days ago.

For some unknown reason (at the time) my PC wouldn't go to sleep due to:

[DRIVER] Filesystem\srvnet
An active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine

I do have a 2nd PC on my network but it's been on the network for at least a month without causing any issues. Even when I turned the 2nd PC off, SRVNET still maintained a active power request.

To cut to the chase ... I found the cause was my Samsung S4 running KitKat 4.4.2 !!!!

A few days ago I enabled "Nearby Devices" & allowed the S4 to connect to various local devices that it found. I then DISABLED the option in the S4 settings. Even so, my phone would still initiate a active connection !!!

The solution was to DELETE ALL of the local devices that I added/enabled & bingo the above power request disappeared & my PC is back to sleeping as/when required.

I posted this as it might be of assistance to someone else trying to determine the cause of a active power request issued by SRVNET.

Couldn't you have set an override for [DRIVER] Filesystem\srvnet? That's what I did for that request and several others and now my computer sleeps.

Then you could keep the devices you want enabled.

Yes & No. When I was having sleep issues I tried overriding srvnet & doing so, by itself, didn't resolve my sleep issues ... but then I didn't & still don't know what exactly was causing the PC not to sleep before I re-installed of Windows in June.

For the NO part ... these days I'm using SmartPower to manage when my PC goes to sleep or wakes up. SP monitors the Power Request queue & if there are active requests will keep the PC awake. I'm not sure, if issuing a override will work with SP ... I intend to ask the developer as he was very responsive to several questions I had about SP several months ago.

I use SP because several, potentially long running pgms that I use, such as, Internet Download Manager (IDM) do NOT create a active power request whilst they are doing their stuff ... bloody stupid I say.

With regards to IDM, I sometimes schedule D/L's to start in the early hours & I use SP to wake the PC 5 mins before the D/L's start, use SP to monitor the network activity to keep the PC awake while IDM is D/L'g the files. Once the D/L's finish the PC will go back to sleep.

I'm also very much a smartphone newbie ... the S4 is my very 1st mobile phone which I purchased only about 6 months ago. I don't use the S4 much beyond phone calls & SMS msgs. So I don't really need to connect my phone to any device!!! No big loss + I would have thought that having this option DISabled or OFF would have prevented the connection. IMHO that's a bug in Android KitKat.

I can't find a solution to this problem, either. Suddenly, over the last few days, my computer will refuse to go to sleep. It's on all day and night unless I physically push the power button or click on "sleep" or "hibernate" on the Windows 8.1 charm or Start menu.

If anyone has any info on how to solve this problem, I'd appreciate it.

The app called StandbyHelper works pretty darn reliably for almost everyone here that's tried it. It's not a Microsoft solution but it works.
