Solved Windows 8.1 Pro (64) - Windows Update Error 8024402F

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro (64) and keep getting this error. I have tried virtually everything including troubleshooters, the Windows Update repair bat, DISM /online /cleanup-image/restorehealth, SFC /scannow, Reset-WindowsUpdate.ps1 script, deleted the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder - all to no avail. There is no internet connection issue of firewall issue as far as I can determine.

I know that this error code is a common one and difficult to fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I could find nothing in addition to what I had already tried listed above despite days of online research. Finally, I decided to restore my computer to a Windows backup image I created with Macrium Reflect that I knew had a working Windows Update component.
