Windows 8.1 preview ISO's to be released by Microsoft

In a message on the MyDigitalLife forums, Neowin forum member FaiKee has posted what he says are extracts from an official Windows 8.1 Preview Q&A that will go live on Microsoft's website on June 26. The Q&A states the Windows 8.1 Preview will also be available for download as an ISO file in addition to the Windows Store direct update.

It downloaded from the store but failed to install, error code 0x8020002e. That's the first time I've ever had any problems installing an app. It correctly ID'd my setup as it showed Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. I guess I'll wait and see if anybody else has this problem before resorting to installing from the ISO image.

If able, right click on the app update for more details, and click "Try again" to see if it may install afterwards. I got an error as well, and this allowed it to continue for me.

Tried that a couple of times and it didn't help. I even went back to the store and tried it a second time, same error.

I think that English(UK) was left out from qualifying language pack, it could be a mistake by chance or design which I have no clue.

pissed off now got the thing done with command prompt but no update available in the store

I guess those using different languages might as well d/l the en-US iso and do a clean install on another partition.

It is pretty sensible. It means one can have a look at 8.1 without affecting your existing installation of 8.0

I've posted -- if you are a TechNet subscriber it's now available on TechNet (21.50 Iceland time last checked). Language packs also available.

Those downloads are only available to those that have a subscription to TechNet or MSDN. If you haven't bought a subscription you will have to wait for Microsoft to offer it up as a free download.

Just stepped away from the busy forums for MS' successful OS to take a peek, since I've seen nothing there all day about 8.1.

Is there a real Start Menu to bring back the Win7 desktop experience used by productive people, or another button to continue guillotining it with the Wall of Playskool Buttons?
