For about a month now my computer has been failing to update it gets to 8% then it shows this message.

We couldn't complete the updates
Undoing changes
Don't turn off your computer

I downloaded the Microsoft Windows Update Diagnostic Tool and ran it but I'm still having the same issue!

It's doing the same thing yet again! I hope Windows 10 fixes this because it doesn't seem like Microsoft has any interest in fixing this issue =/

Just spent the last 3 hours on the computer with a Microsoft Technician and she couldn't fix this issue. So not even Microsoft knows how to fix this =/

Are you using a VPN? They can cause problems. Or you could also try resetting your router to default settings and then change only the default password(A&O router/WIFI security).

After talking to windows tech support 3 days in a row they finally figured out something in systems was corrupted and I needed to reinstall 8.1 IOS. She used Windows Installation Media Creation Tool she also did something with Magic Jelly Bean not sure what though.

The only issue I'm having now is my windows 10 icon is gone although I reserved a copy already it probably was erased I need to figure out how to get that back.

Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install windows from your registry. It also has a community-updated configuration file that retrieves product keys for many other applications. Another feature is the ability to retrieve product keys from unbootable Windows installations.

Just update your PC and it'll come back and you can re-reserve, or I believe if you go to Windows Update in the control panel you might be able to too.

Yesterday I re-imaged my Windows 7 back to the SSD on my laptop and updated everything(I always install all windows updates) system & software, then after a couple of reboots and going online I got the icon(GWX). Windows 8.1 on desktop already had it. I would just say then, wait until everything is updated, and rebooted, leave it online and it should pop up in the tray.
