Hi. When I receive an email with an attachment, usually a document or excel file, I can't open it in the mail app.
A message appears "We can't open this file. Do you want to save it and try opening it with another app?"
If I choose to save it I don't get any choice of where the file is stored and I can never find them.
I have open office installed on the desktop which can open the file but the mail app just saves it in some unknown location.:(

The next time you receive an attachment, remember it's name, save it and do a search for that name.
What email program are you using?

I am using the standard one that comes with 8.1. Surely I shouldn't have to search for a file thats been saved? Isn't there a way to choose where the file is saved?

When you save an attachment you should get a screen similar to this, use the Go Up option at the top to move up a level of folders or click on the folder name to enter it, it will then save in that directory

Thanks but no I am not getting anything that gives me the choice of choosing the file location. I would have expected to get someting like that but for some reason I'm not.
Is there a setting that will change this?

Do you get similar to this when right clicking the attachment in the message, i get this and then when i click save it gives the previous screen i put here

Yes when right clicking that appears however the open with does nothing and the save simply saves to somewhere that windows chooses.:(
