I first downloaded the Windows 8.1 Eval ISO last week when it was introduced. I have since downloaded it several times, both with and without the downloader, on more than one computer.

The ISO won't mount. The error just says "sorry, the file won't mount".
A couple of times the filename retained the ".part" filename extension.
I was able to burn the ISO to DVD and install it, but it says it's expired.

Surely I'm not the only one, but I can't seem to find a solution. Anybody ???

If it has .part then the download did not complete.

As far as the activation problem goes, its a trial, your not supposed to keep reinstalling it. Once the 90 days is up your required to buy a legal version of move on.

But I just got it. It hasn't even been out for 90 days.
OK, I misread your original post, the multiple downloads had me thinking you had already downloaded and installed it one or more times. Check your BIOS's date and time setting.

Date and time are correct. I've been watching that extra close lately since I recently fat fingered the date in BIOS and couldn't activate because of it.

UPDATE;
I booted to Puppy Linux on live USB and downloaded again. This time I appear to have gotten a clean download because I was able to copy it to a USB drive and install from it, two computers in fact. Sadly, I still get the "expired" message on both.

As far a licencing goes, we're licensed. I just don't want to waste activations playing "Mad Scientist". That's what demos are for.

Maybe I'll just use the Server 2012r2 demo. It has a key.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. I've only ever played around with Enterprise once to setup a Windows To Go drive. I used my full TechNet edition and my TechNet key. I haven't played around with the evale version.

Solved;
I found a discussion about Windows Update not updating if the computer was booted into Audit Mode, which has become so routine to me I didn't even give it a second thought. However after reading that I decided to try again and go through the OOBE this time.

That worked. It has auto activated just like it should and shows me 90 days.

Maybe this will help someone else, especially mad scientists like myself.

If it has .part then the download did not complete.
Right, but the browser shows the download to be complete.
Hi there
The Browser is telling you lies if the file has the suffix .part -- that means for some reason the download was interrupted.

Download again - the suffix should be .iso

However what is "Boot PC into "Audit mode" -- sounds an interesting option - and what does it do.

Cheers
