Over the weekend I experienced problems with my Windows 8.1 after trying to access hidden files and changing security settings for administrator. First all files disappeared then after system restores I found I could only get to a black screen with cursor and error message: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error!; Explorer.exe. The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
I have tried various fixes:
Can anybody suggest anything else?
Thanks in advance.
I have tried various fixes:
- clean boot i.e. few services running
- Safe mode
- uninstalled Nvidia graphics driver
- sfc and checkdisk before booting
- uninstalled Windows updates
- uninstalled all Microsoft Visual C++ updates (5 or 6) then reinstalled Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 x64
- I am currently trying a chkdsk C: /f /r /x command which may do the trick!
Can anybody suggest anything else?
Thanks in advance.
