Windows 8.1 Aug Update Released (KB2975719)

I'm running fine with IE11 immersive, but occasionally desktop version. Use Office 2013 a lot. Other programs too. Having no issues whatsoever.

I suppose uninstalling the updates wouldn't hurt if you ran ok before.

But you have to ask yourself one question.....

I am confused here by all these posts and yet nothing official. My system is running fine even with all those updates.
Should I or should I not uninstall those 4 updates or what???

I haven't got my head around this issue either but I performed a clean installation the other day, due to another issue, and none of this stuff exists on my machine and I have no problems.
It's an option; a time consuming one but an option.

I think MS is letting a lot of oops' slip through the door!

My system installed only 2 of the 4 suspected buggy updates, KB2982791 and KB2975719. I did uninstall both as a test, when I rebooted Windows update had some updates it wanted to install but they were dated June 2014 ?????? I didn't understand why that would be.

So I ended up putting my backup image on and now I'm going to keep the updates and see what Microsoft has to say about how the fix will be best handled, if they ever tell us. If I do have a crash I'll just re-image and uninstall the updates, especially KB2982791.

FWIW, Even tho I wasn't having any problems.I uninstalled KB2975719 and things went downhill. I had to restore from a Macrium Reflect Image I had made August 12 immediately before the updates to get back to "normal". I did this on August 19 and my pc has been fine since. HippsieGypsie and Dirty Harry are right on - " you have to ask yourself one question....".

Just for the record, had those updates installed, no problems showed up. Uninstalled them ('just in case' and following MS' recommendation), no problems with that either. So all well, and simply waiting to see if any 'updated updates' show up.

KB2982791 and KB2975719 were installed via Windows update on two of my PC's. One laptop and one desktop. No issues on either PC. As a precaution I uninstalled both on both PC's, still no issues on either PC?

Hi, all. I stop by occasionally to check in for any important material that has been posted and do whatever I have to do. Well, things were just fine until this Microsoft fiasco. I understand about uninstalling the defected updates by reading the article by Microsoft and posts here. I haven't done it yet, I see some people have additional problems after uninstalling the updates, which gives me pause about uninstalling. And, why in the world doesn't Microsoft contact users directly with all important information........why does one have to search to see if there are any problems? Microsoft really needs to get its act together....regular folks using their program shouldn't have to dig for necessary information...it should be automatically sent to the people.

How would you suggest they send it to you? Microsoft doesn't send you e-mail unless you subscribe to it from them. They are one of the few companies that don't spam your inbox with stuff. The usual method is to pull the patch, which they did, and then issue a patch to undo of fix those that did the original patch before it was pulled. They also post info on their web site. Once other sites see that info they post it on their sites and the message gets spread.

Does Microsoft e-mail this important information if you did subscribe?

It’s good what they perform presently with bad updates, but I feel they could go one further by releasing bulletins via email.

Overall it would be a good idea that MS would notify users of bad updates for sure. Not all people read tech news, especially the commoner. Perhaps through Action Center, although that’s not a direct means on communication that I know of. Perhaps upon finalizing an installation or upon first use of an OEM machine for option to join an email list?

I would think it would be easy for them to add that option for those that use a live ID. The question is how many would actually take them up on the offer?

I am not convinced that emailing people is the best way to go, it would just confuse more people

I am assuming the majority of people with the update have no issues and have been using it for nearly 2 weeks unaware of what happened, what would be the point of telling them an update could have problems, they would start panicking and thinking something is wrong with there pc

Right now, there is no opt in offer for e-mail notices during a Windows install. With a Microsoft live ID though it could be offered, if they wanted to. As a Microsoft MVP I do get e-mail from Microsoft. I get what I opted in for when I was accepted. You can tailor it to suit your interests. Even so I heard about the issues here before I saw it mentioned in my Microsoft e-mails. I didn't get any e-mail from Microsoft specifically dealing with those patch Tuesday issues. Not that I can remember anyway. Some of the stuff I get is subject to non disclosure anyway.

It all depends on what websites you frequent and what news letters you subscribe too. I get stuff from ZDNet and PCWorld and it was mentioned with links to their articles on it.

"The usual method is to pull the patch, which they did, and then issue a patch to undo of fix those that did the original patch before it was pulled".....then why didn't I get the patch directly to fix it. Why was't the patch downloaded to the HP Support assistant? I don't think I subscribed for e-mail from Microsoft.....and I don't remember given a source to do so. Does Microsoft e-mail this important information if you did subscribe?

Thank you, alpha. So, I guess nothing will change at this time, Thanks for your help. Okay, something strange just happened while typing my last sentence......an audio for some ad just started......how did that happen.....? Strange.
