Well, I will be coming here for help on how to install it. I'm not messing with the preview version, because I don't want to deal with the bugs. I did sign up for the insider program though.

I wouldn't mind being wrong, but I doubt it will be. As much as Microsoft is trying to transition itself into being a "cloud" company they still rely pretty heavily on the cash flow from Windows and Office sales. I know most of the money comes from the sale of new computers, not individuals buying the retail package, but with PC sales down sharply, they may well want to try and wring whatever they can out of the retail market.

So many of the rumors about the upcoming Windows, and even about things like updates to Windows 8.1, have turned out to be completely false that I wouldn't go getting my hopes up until there's an official announcement.

As Edwin stated, the rumors have it free but under certain conditions that have yet to be made official. Stay tuned.

I wonder if they will at least do something like the $40 thing to entice new Windows 10 users? I can't see laying out almost $100 for something that won't really be much different from Windows 8.1.

Hello!

I believe it will be the usual free upgrade for users buying Windows 8.1 now. All versions will be priced, but if one buys a computer with Windows 8.1 preinstalled, he/she will be liable for a free upgrade to Windows 10, when it will be out. Which one is liable for that free upgrade will be announced in due time. Other than those, we have to buy Windows 10 to legally install it in our system, unless we want to try it. In that case, we borrow the DVD from a friend, install it without activating and try it for 30 days. If we decide to keep it, we can then buy a license online.

What do you mean by that?

It has happened with older versions of Windows. When the final version of Windows 7 was announced, those that had bought a notebook or desktop with Vista preinstalled 2-3 months before the release date could have a free upgrade to 7. Similarly, when the final version of Windows 10 will be announced, all of those that will have recently buy a computer with 8.1 will be liable to a free upgrade. Just check Microsoft's site for details.

I'm afraid you won't be liable. If Windows 10 will be out Summer of 2015, probably liable customers will be those buying a new computer within 2015, but who knows! Wait and see.

Well you might get a deal, I bought this laptop in July 2012 with win 7 and a $14.95 upgrade to Win 8 Pro. I also got $40 upgrades to 8 pro for all my Win 7 pro machines. Win 8 has had such bad acceptance we might all get a low priced upgrade deal!! MS needing to get a bunch of sales started

No, it needs to be a free upgrade. Something tells me it will be since they started that Insider program.
