win8.1 upgrade win8.0 to 8.1 2 computers, one failed

I upgraded two computers from win8 retail to win 81. One totally failed and had to removed the hard drive and put it in my working computer, to roll it back to win 8.0. It would not boot at all not even to bios after that fiasco. The other computer went just fine. The MSI P7N motherboard with core2duo did not work after running and first reboot, it was left with a black screen. Had to remove hard drive put in other computer (newer with quad core, etc.. win8.1) and roll it back then put it back in the computer which had the fail. I still don't know what failed. I think that computers older than 5 years just don't have the proper hardware for Win8.1, but maybe wrong.

I still am unable to get into the bios on the computer (MSI P7N) that the 8.1 upgrade screwed up, the computer is working fine after rolling it back to win8. but can no longer get into the bios of the motherboard. note: I have a degree with computers and have been building them and working with software since 1982. I don't know what it did, but the bios got screwed somehow and clearing it does not help either.. luckily, I could put the Sata hard drive into my newer computer and roll it back so I could get it to run back in win 8 again... or else it would be bricked..

Cant you go to the MSI site and download the latest BIOS for your MOBO - I think it would be this based on your information given:
MSI Global ? Motherboard - P7N SLI Platinum / P7N Zilent

Check it is the right version for the MOBO, then use the recommended procedure to flash the BIOS?

it is too risky to mess with it for now,, better off just leaving it in default mode... my wife will kill me if her computer goes dead !

probably just wait until I get her a new computer (some day and not risk the hell that can happen, from both her and the computer..

now the computer with the failed upgrade from 8 to 8.1 is demanding the key, I put the key in and it refuses saying it's the right key, but demands I through the setup which then leads me to install win 8 again..... over my copy that worked fine until I tried the 8.1 upgrade, so now,, it says I can save personal files, no more choices other than 'nothing' so I manually copied some to save just in case and am running win 8 install over win 8. I am so angry with the clowns at MS ! if you are reading this, whoever caused this with the upgrade fiasco, burn and rot!

I had to re-install win 8 to save the whole thing,, I had no choice... it demanded re-install after it was rolled back, and just entering the win 8 key did not satisfy the stupid thing... just angry was up all night just to re-install 8 because of the damned software was a bunch of b.s. no choices, only this or screw you...
