Win 7 Games to Win 8

Just starting setting up my W8 machine (64 bit)

Installed the 64 bit version successfully using my Admin account.

However I always create and use a Normal User account for all my work and the games are not visible there. They have been installed in the Admin account profile and not in the the default profile where they would be available to all users.

Is there an easy fix for this?

In addition the help files are not working either.

I have currently chose the Classic start menu but if another one would be better I am willing to consider changing.

It's right, that the help is only working for the games, but if you search in the help-context about "Hearts" as an example, then you get the following text:

What happened to the games in Windows?
Games like Minesweeper, Solitaire and Hearts aren't included in Windows 8 and Windows RT. Instead, you can use the Windows Store to find and install games you want on your PC:

  1. On the Start screen, tap or click Store to open the Windows Store.
  2. You can search for games like Minesweeper, Solitaire and Hearts, or you can tap or click Games to view all of the available games, and then sort the list based on subcategory, price or rating.

Just try to install the games with your normal account again, then they should come up under your normal user account I think.

I use Start8 from Stardock.

Hi there
For installing Windows 7 classic games on Windows (They aren't included with Windows 8 --only the rubbish one's (IMO) from the store) download and install :

Choose the correct version 64/32 bit depending on your W8 install.

I downloaded a .rar version of this package. I think it is the same as the info.txt file is identical.

I have tried an install from the normal user account and can conform that this now works correctly.

I still do not have the MS game help files - is there any way round this?

Problem with Password

I re-uploaded the games:

Code:
http://www.multiupload.nl/SJ31J24OYF

Pass: [END.OF.THE.LINE]

:)

Downloaded the RAR file, but was unable to open due to password (END.OF.THE.LINE) not recognised........Message being :-C:\Users\John\Downloads\blablabla rar: CRC failed in the encrypted file C:\Users\John\Downloads\blablabla rar. Corrupt file or wrong password.
Any information/assistance in resolving this issue would be much appreciated.
I am using Windows 8 64-bit OS
Thank you in advance, John.

As this packages are home-made and M$ doesn't like them, they get taken down pretty fast if you don't take some measures.

PS:

Pass = Password = [END.OF.THE.LINE] (type it and don't copy & paste the password ! the brackets are part of the password !)

Who does still use WinZip etc. ? WinRAR is since years the pseudo-standard.

That's right.

Unfortunately, it's hard to convert the "masses" to something better.

For better compression I use other packer's:

What about 7zip? Very light and doesn't "feel" bloated. Open-source and no messages about purchases or "upgrades" because it's free.

As to why use these programs at all, sometimes you'll stumble across that one random .rar compression and Windows won't be able to open it.

There are so many different packer-apps, that it's hard to make everyone happy with your choice. WinRAR has now in it's actual beta a new compression-profile (WinRAR5).

WinRAR compresses for me in most cases better then .zip, that's one of the reasons why I use it. I like UHARC as well, but the average users always complain about it, if I don't make sfx out of it.

I ran the uninstall and deleted the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games folder, and started from scratch.
Re-downloaded the zip file and extracted it.
I have a 32 bit machine so I ran the x86 version.
Now, after the install has run, there is NO "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games folder", Nothing at all!
It is as if the install app had not run - Something installs because I can now run uninstall.
I tried manually creating the Program Files\Microsoft Games folder and re-running the install - same result.
I am not a novice in working with pc's but this has me beat!
One thing that I noticed is that the install only takes one/two seconds - is that normal?
Is there any chance that the app you uploaded is corrupt?
Any pointers would be appreciated!

I'm having the same problem here as well. I tired installing it on win 7 machine and the game doesn't even run after opening exe.
Running the installer from windows 8 machine does the same effect has Craigmill. isn't there a portable 32bit version of these games

The link by Tonschuh, which looked to solve the issue, now displays that it is no longer available. Apparently someone (Microsoft?) had it shutdown to prevent the non-full-screen, no-ad-infested games from the so-called "Store" from being impacted. I want games that can run on the Desktop back, windowed games, not the full-screen, advertising-laden versions we are now limited to using.
I truly do not find the Metro interface desirable whatsoever. I use the Desktop, and so does Microsoft for their important applications, such as Office 2013. They all revert to the Desktop due to the impracticality and uselessness of Metro.
I am sorry to ever have invested in Windows 8 and Office 2013. It was a big step backwards and makes me much less productive.
