Will 90 percent of users always hate Windows 8?

Oh gee.. it's only the core part you need worry about. That's the normal Windows elements you would expect to find in a newer version. The rest is A OK however!

(can I sell you on a bridge somewhere near Brooklyn, NY.?)

What bridge might that be ?

There are lots of bridges "around" Brooklyn.

There shouldn't be a problem finding a buyer, especially around the Big Apple.

The tricky part is collecting the money ! :p

Hi there
Talking of Bridges -- Lake Havasu in Arizona -- they thought they were buying the Original TOWER Bridge from London -- but they bought LONDON BRIDGE instead which was just basically a traffic bridge -- so there's always a Market for anything. !!

Here's the old London Bridge -- as the poster says "Worlds largest Antique". I remember that Bridge in London - it was covered with Grime and I used to walk across it from London Bridge Railway station going to MONUMENT underground station to catch a train to South Kensigton to go to University (Imperial College). It always seemed to be raining - but I'm used to that anyway.

Perhaps all that MS should do would be to release a free applet that shall put the Start Button back. They would then have pleased the whole world.

Tablet interface is fine for the lay users and therefore with the passage of time 90% users might start loving the Windows 8 GUI, but for the experts who want to be in control of the machine the Windows 7 GUI was far better.

This is just my opinion and many would perhaps differ with me.

It would be better for them to put back the little bit of code they removed. Easy for them to do and tiny.

You got that one correct! They could improve the look of the taskmanager but trash the desktop gui? Does that make much sense? It would have been easier to simply revamp the look and feel of the more traditional Start if they wanted to add a Settings and Apps Crawler bar without dumping the Start entirely and slapping a full screen of Metro apps in your face instead.

To add further to muster they then strip out the media features that have been in since XP and MCE to follow lessening the worth of the OS and you wonder why the low prices for 8 were seen? They must have realized late that was the only way they were going to be able to sell it!

I am so utterly sick and tired of trying to fix all the errors in this lousy Windows 8 system that I am now going back to Windows 7.

For the last few weeks, this 6-month old laptop, upgraded from Windows 7, has not been able to install updates - they download but just refuse to install. I have spent the last 6 hours trying to sort out the problem. Go through the procedure to fix one error message and it then refuses to update because of another (hexadecimal) error message.

Automatic repair gives up after 10 seconds with the wonderfully helpful error message "Windows could not load properly" - that is all!

Refresh your PC gives up with the equally helpful; message "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes were made"

Re installing the OS likewise fails.

Sorry, but Windows 8 is rubbish. I know it looks pretty and runs fast but it is just not robust. Win7 is infinitely more stable

....Goodbye

This is interesting. All these errors may have a common cause so it may be difficult to proceed. BUT why does a reinstall fail. That should work no matter what - except if there were a hardware problem.

Thanks a lot Wolfgang for sharing this article. I got a new laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed and I am not much enamoured by it so far.

To start with I dislike the pre-installed business but all my efforts to get a Windows 8 DVD to do a clean install failed and I don't want to spend a fortune to buy a DVD separately. The laptop doesn't even have a sticker with the Product Key on the bottom. I had to extract it using a third party program.

My question is that from where can I download a Microsoft approved Windows 8 installation DVD, like it could be done for Windows 7 and use the existing Product Key for activation.

A very interesting article that summarizes a lot of the elements we have been discussing here.

To my knowledge, there is no place from where you can legally download a Windows 8 .iso. There was a thread at MDL, but it looks like they shut this down. It looks like they really want to lock you in with what they are selling you.
@junglee here you go direct .iso links download and compare with official sha1 hash for intergrity.

It is possible that there is a hardware fault but there are no obvious symptoms. The laptop is only 6 months old and it behaves perfectly normally - apart from refusing to install Windows Updates.

Following up on the the error messages generated by trying to install updates found a couple of corrupted system files. However after wasting all day on the thing, I am gradually losing the will to live. My wife is also losing the will to live with me.

I know it is boring but the error messages went something like...
...about five I didnt bother writing down.. then..
80070003
800703F1
800703F1 again (- this time it did detect and fix a corrupted file)
8007371C
800703F1
8007371C .at which point I gave up

I had originally planned to do an Automatic repair and a 'Refresh your PC' but these both failed.

My year-old Win7 box has never given more than five minutes grief.

I am beginning to really hate this win8 operating system and will be glad to get back to win7

Is there an easy and proven way to downgrade back to Win7 without having to reformat?

..no sorry if I confused you.. Windows 8 updates are refusing to install
It has successfully installed about 60 Security Updates up to KB2727528, then the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack update...then nothing else.
It has four or five updates all downloaded but unable to install.

I have just tried to undo the last succesfull update (the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack) - but that refuses to uninstall with the error message "an error has occurred. Not all the updates were successfully uninstalled."

Bloody thing!

Not necessarily - not everyone who likes it is totally unreasonable.

Perhaps there is something about 8 which attracts those with the problems you describe. ;)

Yeah why not, then I would be banned and eightforums could get a dmca notice.
I'm sure if look around mdl forum you would find some links yourself;).
@Mods sry about that, won't happen again I know the forum rules.

There is nothing wrong posting legit links. But you are apparently talking about some links from the wild. That does not help anybody.

Just because this is even discussed is proof that Win8 sucks. I bought a computor to do work, not to have to re learn an OS. Improve what you had, not toss it out. XP was the best and Win 7 is OK but 8 sucks. MAC users are laughing.

That is one of the best argments I have seen up to now. We, the geek community, forget that sometimes. We like to make the OS tweaking the center of our work.
