Why would I want to switch to Windows 10?

... W10 is a pure touch OS. Nothing has been done to improve the operational characteristics of classic desktops with keyboard and mouse. Make the test - define a high contrast theme in 8.1 and then in 10 and tell me which is easier.
Sshhh! Don't tell my laptop without touch running W8.1 that it's OS is pure touch, it seems to work absolutely fine with keyboard and mouse.

As for high contrast themes, they may be important to you but I think they are completely insignificant to the great majority of Windows users so it's hardly a valid test as to which OS is better for desktops.

I don't need to use the Windows High Contrast, I use Dark2014 mixed with Edwin's CetiCarbon and I went into RegEdit at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize and created the key(SystemUsesLightTheme DWordvalue 0) to change the Universal Apps(UA's) to the dark version for some consistency.
I think it's looking good now, and also well enough for people that need dark themes

That they did but there's still a chance it will be rectified soon. I'm sure very soon there will be hundreds of custom themes out there.

One thing they got right is, on my installed theme every thing is black, on 7 & 8 I couldn't change the taskbar and window decoration,
I had to take what the artist gave to install.
On 10 I was able to change those colors so I got the gray text on black window backgrounds(instead of whit on black) and Edwin's wallpaper and window decoration & start menu color choices. So it seems I can override a theme, and that's cool so I can make the desktop really mine and it will be truly "Personalized".

 That's incredibly creepy! Audacious sods. I think I'll just outright pass. With any luck, that will be an optional thing, like with 8.1 and I think the previous operating systems.

    It's "tower," not desktop!
It took long enough getting windows 8 to function like windows 7, like it should on a desktop. Not switching and dealing with another OS that wasn't designed for computers.
Well, it was not designed for wood stows, was it ? It's actually more for desktops than anything else. Besides, there was W7 for phones too. Never heard anybody calling W7 'Phone Os'.

I agree that desktop mode is more touch orientated now, but I don't have any major issues with how this is

However for me, the opposite of what you say is my opinion for touch devices, it is too desktop orientated now, MS has stripped out all the good touch features and replaced them with features more designed for a desktop

Win 8 series worked well for touch only mode or desktop mode, 10 seems to be trying to compromise between them but failing to give the best experience on either

When it comes to an OS, the worst thing to do is listen to the few people who shout & grip about things, you need to make an image of your current system and then test it yourself to evaluate it.

If I had listened to the gripers, I never would have tried Windows 8, which to me is the best OS Microsoft ever created, yes even for desktop, because I usually go full screen anyhow, when I'm using or doing something so as not to have to scroll all the time, andI switch around using the Icons in taskbar.

Well, that goes without saying.

But, from the images I have seen of Windows 10 I can kinda see what they are talking about.

I will definitely be putting Windows 10 on my tablet but I will be sure I have saved out the Windows 8.1 installation
if I don't like Windows 10.

That's the best thing you can do. I know I will be putting it on my Windows 7 laptop(already have build 10074 there) but I'm not sure yet about my Windows 8.1 desktop, as I said I love 8.1. I have created an image already with Macrium of not only my system drive, but also of my 2nd internal drive, where I use one partition for Libraries and one partition for File History & Macrium images. Yes I even backed-up some of my old images so I can do a complete restore.

What really has me being a little hesitant to upgrade my desktop is, Samsung hasn't made Magician(for their SSD's) 10 compatible, and using RAPID mode gives a boost that makes the Samsung Pro 256GB faster than a even PCIe SSD(much faster) even though it uses SATA 6 GB/s (SATA 3) port.

For me I have a touch Laptop and find this works great with 8.1 using mouse/keyboard/touch

Win 10 will definitely be installed on this, I can then try using it purely with touch to see if I want 10 on my tablet (tested early 10 builds on it, later ones only in a VM)

certainly worth a try on tablets, some seem to love it, others hate it
