Solved Why don't windows go on top of others when selected from task bar?

Here is another annoying feature I am noticing in windows 8. If I am browsing the net in Firefox, and I want to pull up another window which I select like normal from the task bar. It does not pull up. All too often, I am finding that I have to manually minimize my active window in order to pull up the desired window. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this always on top behavior?

Here's my 2 cents. ... have not seen any on top behavior. Not sure if this is what you are referring to, if you need multiple instances of a browser, right click on the taskbar icon and select your program.

Nope, not seen that behavior at all. Did you do an upgrade install? 99.9% of the time when you see a problem like this, it's because you did an upgrade and the setup carried over previous settings that interfere with the functioning of the new version. Just say no to upgrades.

No.. it was a clean install.. This problem seems to have gone away on its own after a reboot. Here is hoping that it stays that way. Basically, my over-all perception of the OS at this time is that there are enough cool new features to warrant the upgrade, but a lot of the metro apps are designed more or less for newbs and children, rather than enthusiasts. That, and I think the entire start menu needs a lot of work going forward. I think it is a great idea that was sort of poorly executed. Much more customization is needed. As a desktop user, I would have preferred more of a sense of gaining something with the start menu, and a bit less of the sense that I have lost something. I am hoping this will all get better over time.
