I have no problem with the Charms. Yes, I occasionally accidentally pop them out but it's a nit to have them go away again so I don't understand why they are so disliked. It's great that they are configurable though since some want that option.

Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
I do find the search charm to be extremely useful, but I use a hotkey combo to get that since I have no real use for any of the rest.

I don't find it annoying, I have it set so that it doesn't pop out all the time. At present I'm having problems getting it to show sometimes I use a mouse and the times I send the pointer down to get it and it may show briefly but not enough to grab it and actually click on anything, now that can be annoying. :D

I find it somewhat annoying when it pops open due to nearby mouse movements when it's not needed.

Sometimes I find it a little annoying when I inadvertently cause them to appear, but I'd rather have them than not have them at all. What's funny is that I once watched a YouTube rant when Windows 8 first came out where the guy complained about this very same issue, when in fact I started noticing that the same behavior occurs in OS X (edge and corner gestures and stuff to bring up the Launchpad, Dashboard, etc.).

You can change that in the OS X system settings. They call them "Hot Corners".

In Windows 10, they are trying to make it so you don't inadvertly open the charms bar. To open it you must press Win+C. :)

"Hot Corners" ... that name was on the tip of my tongue and I thought that's what they were called, but I wasn't sure. At any rate, it's all fine by me. When I'm working in OS X on my Mac mini I use Launchpad and Dashboard a lot. Regardless of the OS, obviously it should be up to the user to configure if they think it gets in the way. Of course, on my Surface RT it feels really natural to swipe from the different sides.
