Which Web Browser Is Best Under Windows 8?

Welcome to our first-ever Web Browser Grand Prix on Windows 8! Will Chrome remain the reigning Windows champion? Is Internet Explorer 10 going to smash the competition like its predecessor? Does Opera 12.10 finally deliver on what version 12 promised?

Firefox in Win 8.1 desktop for me,
If only I could rid myself of that "Firefox is already running, but not responding" bug/annoyance

Hmmmm...don't have that bug in 8.1 myself--at least, not in the way you describe it. I only get the "Firefox is already running," message after I've closed Firefox and then immediately attempted to restart it before the program clears itself from memory--usually takes--oh, ten seconds or so after close to drop out of memory (you can watch that happen in the task manager when observing running processes.) Then you can start it up just fine. I guess that after you close the browser the browser doesn't clear immediately out of ram--not expecting us to want to restart it immediately after closing it. You'll notice that when the browser updates itself and asks you for permission to restart that this doesn't happen--the browser restarts instantly which means Ff clears itself from system ram immediately. So, if I had to guess I'd say this is a very minor Ff bug--the program should simply clear instantly from system ram when closed--shouldn't have to take 5-10 seconds.

Had a brain amputation followed up by an all-lobe "clean-up" lobotomy last year, am doing fine. Life is so much simpler, now.
I have Firefox, Google Chrome, and IE11 installed. I use them on an alternating basis. IE11 is by far the fastest and has the least problems. Basically, I only use the Internet for browsing, and emails. Based on my results, I am making IE11 my default browser for now.

I'm not trying to bash IE on Windows 8/8.1 but with tracking protection ON (I use Fanboy's + Albine) it has the most display problems with the least protection not to mention the level of privacy it provides with SmartScreen filter on (I keep it on for protection but I'm fully aware of the privacy concerns).

What IE has going for it though is it runs fully native 64-Bit in Enhanced Protection Mode + 64-Bit Process turned which does make it slightly faster and only second to Chrome when it comes to speed plus 64-Bit Mode offers a bit more protection on top of tracking protection however certain plugins still use a 32-Bit process even in 64-Enhanced Protection Mode.

Even though Firefox is the slowest of the bunch between IE, Chrome and Firefox. I feel the safest on Firefox simply because there's very little privacy concerns and an ocean of awesome extensions selection makes Firefox the safest if not one of the safest browsers to use excluding sandbox browsers.

Just an opinion, :p

Tried IE11. After being a Chrome user and a previous ff user I had decided to give ie11 a go. I only use 1 extension, and the particular extension(has a stop sign as its emblem) was absolute crap on ie11, after 2 days of very hard work tweaking my settings and playing around with 32 and 64bit enhanced protection and so on, I just couldn't live with ie11. I am a minimalist I prefer to use built in extensions if any at all.
So back to chrome. Also I found that the the fonts for ie11 were crap also, but I did improve them by running the clear type wizard again. I want the two days of my life back.

I am discussing in another thread IE11. Just went back to it as Chrome keeps crashing on me, and usually when I am doing something, like this, online. "Sorry! Chrome has crashed, press restore"

AGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Why don't these software companies test to total destruction before releasing??????

But I want IE to open FILL screen every time not FULL screen but FILL the screen eg: the address bars etc all show. Using F11 is a pain.

I use all Chrome, Firefox and IE8-11, not an Opera nor a Safari fan.

I use all 3 for different purposes. What is interesting from the article results, is that Firefox and Chrome out perform IE (though marginally), but they really have so many more options available to the user. Apps, skins, etc. IE basically just browses the web and has no truly useful tools (other than FTP), that is it's biggest stumbling block as a modern browser, in my opinion.

I never browse via Metro, to cumbersome for me, or maybe I am just all thumbs.

i binned FF because of the spyware it contains. I agree that they out perform, Microsoft have been very slow to try and emulate the better browsers. Once upon a time I would only use IE, now its the last on the list. I am currently back on chrome and thus far, has behaved itself, but it does tend to suddenly crash in my windows (8.1 pro)
