Where to download Windows 8.1 for ASUS ROG G751 Series G75

Hi, I got my ASUS ROG G751 Series G751JT-CH71 Gaming Laptop 2 weeks back and the 1 TB 7200 RPM Rotational HDD had bad sectors in it. I have given it for replacement and it was impossible to make recovery disks. I just bought a Corsair Force Series™ LX 512GB SATA 3 6Gb/s SSD and using it as the C Drive.

From what I have researched, I need a Windows 8.1 Core Single Language 64 Bit which I can install using generic keys from Microsoft and then activate it using the Windows Key in the BIOS of the system (I have retrieved the key as well).

I installed Windows 8.1 Pro in the above manner but the key that I have in my ROG did not work. The system said that I cannot use this key for this version of windows.

I have not been able to find an OEM ISO yet.

Can someone please tell me:

  1. Which version of Window should I be looking for that will accept my key when I try to activate it?
  2. Where do I download this version of Windows?

Thanks,
DAN

the embedded key is for core 8/8.1 you have to install core software..

use the bold blue link in my sig below and get windows 8.1 core software and it will read the bios embedded key.. no need for key tricks..

core for core key - pro for pro key ( core single language for core single language key)

you cant install pro software with an embedded core key - or the other way around for that matter

Sounds like your having an internet issue the ISO file is large and takes a while to download I was thinking it did have a pause and resume I guess not.

What Key?? If your system came with windows 8 or 8.1 you do not need a key.. The software reads the embedded key..

try this > http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/produkey.zip it will pull the embedded product key from the bios..

View attachment 56824

If it does not pull embedded bios key - it should of came with a retail key

You have several options:
Windows 8.1
Windows 8.1 Pro
Windows 8.1 Single language
Windows 8.1 *** (N)

one of those options will read and install using the embedded key (if you have one)
Using a generic key will only allow the installation - but that is as far as you'll get.. So don't even bother using the generic key..

If you have an embedded key the right OS version software will not ask for a product key and will continue to install (and activate)

Also, since you already tried Pro and now Single language, try Windows 8.1...

Also, you do not need to download USB and ISO - just create ISO and save it somewhere.. In windows 8/8.1 if you Double click the ISO it will mount as DVD, then copy those DVD files to USB.. Save from having to download the same software twice..

Also, OEM's do not apply COA stickers.. I am not sure about Retail OS software if it comes with COA or not..
I purchased Retail online and just got the key and a link via email.. So cant say for sure what your sticker is or what scan code is

They key I was referring to is the one that I pulled using a method like the above.

The issue is that during install it asks for a key, I too think it is because I was installing SL but now I am burning Core so lets hope this works.

Thanks for the input, will not use a generic key this time. It should read it. If asked I will enter my key which I have pulled using tools like these and a script I ran in powershell.

Thanks,
DAN

Yup, I downloaded the ISO and the USB too. Have installed Single Language edition, trying the key but its not working, saying you cannot use this key on this edition.

Now there are so many flavors of windows, not sure which one I had on my:
Model Number: G751JT-CH71
New Egg URL: ASUS ROG G751 Series G751JT-CH71 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 3GB 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Newegg.com

:(

Asus only installs Core, if you buy from a custom vendor you can get Pro for a price. I haven't noticed Newegg adding Pro to any of there models? There is really only Core Pro and Single Language Single language would mostly be for foreign countries Spanish French etc. Or if you buying in a foreign country English. Also you should check out the Republic of Gamers Forum lots of specific to Asus Gaming Computers

Your Welcome Dan..

Using the right software did not ask for key.. You just tried installing the wrong version at first, that's all.

Yeah, if you download the wrong version it rejects the embedded key and prompts you to enter one. Entering the OEM key will not work as it already rejected it. Once you install the correct matching version it reads the key and your not prompted to enter one.

Hello everyone.

I just received an Asus ROG G751-JT Laptop which did not come with a Recovery Disc. Does anyone know where to get an Asus G751-JT Recovery Disc containing Windows 8/8.1?

Thanks to everyone in advance!!!

Yes with window 8.1 on a G751 you still have a recover partition. You can use Asus Backtracker I linked you to the FAQ page where you'll learn how to use it. and down load the latest version.
Now then all that said, you should be using an aftermarket Imaging/Backup software I and many others like Macrium Reflect. You can use the free version to create an Image of your C:/ complete Hard Drive/SSD and keep in on an external USB hard drive. Much more reliable than Asus's Backtracker.

You will need aftermarket software for sure once you move up to Windows 10 since Asus Backtracker will not work in ten. Asus depends totally on Windows recovery.

For all your Drivers windows 8 8.1 & 10 Asus Support Downloads

For more information on your Asus Gaming notebook come see us on the ROG Forum lots more help on specific things to your ROG Notebook.

Thanks Clntlgm.

I should add to this that the laptop I received does not have the recovery partition - it was wiped prior to ever receiving the laptop, so I am kind of screwed there. However, I do have the drivers from the Asus website and I also have a 3rd party backup software which I intend to back up the hard drive, if I could get my hands on recovery discs for this unit.

I like having the recovery discs in case I need to rebuild the hard drive. The recovery discs saves time on having to install drivers after the laptop is rebuilt, and of course - other Asus goodies that is not available from their website.

Is there any chance anyone has recovery discs for these units? I have the G751-JT unit.

There was never an recovery disk made unless you made your own USB Thumb drive with Backtracker. You can check out the people in ROG forum someone might upload one for you that's a large upload minimum 16 GB I think the people were using 32 GB Thumb Drives with Back Tracker. I already gave you a link to the ROG Forum.
